Does it matter if you give your kitten adult cat food?

Does it matter if you give your kitten adult cat food as opposed to kitten food? And also, how much food are you supposed to feed two 4 month old kittens?

Kitten food is best, if you do give an adult food make sure its labeled for all life stages (sometimes this is necessary in a community population like barn cats). At this age most cats do well free-fed: that is keeping food out at all times. If someones getting overweight, then you should start measuring out the food. Check the back of the bag, and feed to the weight your cat should be, not what the cat weighs currently. Also keep in mind that cat food manufacturers want to sell cat food, so when in doubt start with the smaller portion. Adjust what youre feeding up or down by 10% at a time depending on how fat/skinny your cats are getting.

Kitten food contains more fat and calories than adult food. Kittens need the extras for energy and to promote growth. Kittens should eat kitten food until a year old. There should be a feeding chart on the can or bag.

. As noted on the package, kitten food should be fed, according to weight, and at least 3 -4 times a day when they are young, then up to 1/2 cup per pound as they grow. Kitten food is specially prepared for your kittens and is more nutritious, providing elements they need to promote healthRight now, my 5 month old kitten is laying on his back on my lap, and chasing my fingerfs while I type. I feed my gusy 3/4 cup kitten food twice a day, and 1/4 can twice a day. Habing 2 kittens, I have to make sure that each gets his share, and the other downnt try to move in, as kittens are rone todo. My vet says that the best judge about how much to feed is to judge how much they eat is to give them a specified amount each day, in the morning. If there is some left at night, dont change the amount. but, when they finish that amount during the day and increase by 1/4 cup, for the first year..And only give a small amount of canned food, because they need the chewing activity to help clean teeth. I use my finger every couple days, as a tooth brush. One more important thing - plenty of water in a clean dish, daily. If they run out of water, youknow where the next choice is = UGH!.

Compare the labels look at just how much difference there is between kitten adult food. OTH - there is food that is "formulated for all life stages", the important thing is the taurine protein levels. I once had several litters of kittens reject kitten food altogether raid the older cats NutroMax Lite Senior bowls. NutroMax uses the same ingredients, just different amounts in each formulation. I just left down plenty of food so that they had dry food available all the time. They were fine. As long as it is a quality food not cheap cereal.
