My daughter who is 18 months always snatches and eats my cats food. there is really no place for me to put it without her getting her hands on it. should i be worried?
How to stop my dog from eating the cats food?
My dog is 7 years old and we have never had this problem before. We feed her every morning the same food we have fed her for 7 years, but starting a week ago, she started eating the cats food in the afternoon. Why would she start eating the cat food after 7 years of never touching it? And how do i get her to stop?

What are the benefits of dry cat food vs wet cat food?
I have always fed her dry cat food...she seems to like it fine. I always wondered if I should mix it up...and give her some wet food too. I had a cat when I was a kid and we never gave her wet food...and she was just fine. Any advice?
What are some ingridents i should look out for in cat food?

How long after kittens start walking do you give them water and cat food?
I have 3 little kittens that are about a month old now. they are getting around and playing more everyday. is this a good time to introduce them to cat food and water? or are they too young? i dont want to make them sick.
How long does canned cat food last in the fridge?
If I buy them in big cans, they are so cheap and I can afford Wellness... but I only have one cat. She refuses to eat any dry food I offer so I give her a little dry mixed in her canned. She would be able to finish a 12.5 oz can in 3 days...... is that too long in the fridge? What can I do to keep it fresher? Or should I stick to brands I can afford like Fancy Feast?
Is it okay to feed my cat tuna flavored cat food?
Such as whiskas Purrfectly fish, which has tuna as like the second ingredient and is actual pieces of tuna. I know that it is not recommended to feed your cats large amounts of human food tuna fish but is it okay in actual cat food?
Is it healthy to feed a dochshund dog cat food?

What is a good dry cat food for a kitty who is overweight but is prone to stuvite crystals?
I have a kitty. A big kitty who has been molly coddled food wise due to the fact that he is prone to FLUTD and obstruction. He is almost 8 years old and although he is a long cat he weighs about 20 pounds. Thank goodness he hasnt obstructed in over 2 years but he has obstructed at least 7 or 8 times in the past. I want to get him on a diet of sorts but am afraid to give him food like Science diet R/D because of the magnesium and calcium content and thats what the vet always gives him when I mention his weight. Unfortunately he always obstructs with it. :/So, is there a good food for portly kitties that do not have the additives that can cause obstructions like magnesium or calcium but are healthful and rounded nutrition wise? Are there any organic or natural options out there other than supermarket brands? Thank you! :)
How much money would i spend a month on cat food and litter?

How much canned cat food should i feed my cats?
I have two cats. One is a year old, the other seems to be two. I was wondering how much cat food they should get a day. (It is canned cat food)
What brand of cat food is best for overweight cats?
I have 2 cats. They are both overweight. We feed them Purina Naturals or something like that. We want the best, dry cat food designed specifically for overweight cats. They are adults, 5 and 9 years old. We feed them 1/3 of a cup twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night. We give them snacks throughout the day as well. I think we are feeding them too much. What do you think?•How much food do they need each day?•And how many times to they need to be fed that amount?
Is it ok for a cat to eat dog food?
Bonnie
And, is it ok for a dog to eat cat food? I have dogs and cats and I just leave their food dishes next to eachother. Once in a while Ill see one of them eat the food theyre not supposed to eat. Is that alright?
Ashlie
No, cats need almost twice the protien that dogs do, so cat food will give a dog too much protien. A nibble here and there isnt going to hurt anything, just as long as its not the full diet

Well yeah it is ok. as long as none of them are throwing up then yeah it is fine. My cat loves to eat human food like poptarts, ice cream, beef jerky, and chocolate but not so much of it.

Actually, according to my mothers veterinarian, and Mom wont lie to save her life, dog food, though not the exact nutritional ideal, will do no harm to a cat if not its only food type.......BUT, Cat Food is bad for dogs, can cause (kidney?) major organ failure if allowed to occur too often. I forget exactly WHAT causes death in worst case examples, which organ for certain, but if memory serves its kidneys. Might want to elevate the kitty chow, if you check this out with any vet via phone, they should gladly confirm\refute this info. I trust my mother, and MY cats food is in a cat carrier, at the back wall, so puppies cannot access the bowl. Happy researching!!
Booker
It is okay if they have a small bite and arent just eating the opposite food. The only difference between cat food and dog food is that they arent nutritionally balanced for the other kind of animal. If you are really concerned put you cat food on a high place where the dog cant get it and you shouldnt have issues.
Clifford
I would say no it is not okay but if it is once in a while it shouldnt do any harm. I guess it would be hard for you to seperate their food but it is amazing the dogs dont attack the cats! The cat food has nutrients especially for the digestive system and life style of the cat. that is also why there are so many different types like for kittens, adult cats, senior cats and also for different medicat needs like hairball formula and urinary tract formula. I dont own a dog but i have seen a DVD recently about cat care.
Rosie
Cats need Taurine in there diet. Most dog foods do not have this essencial nutrient as it is not eassential for dogs-although it is found in some natural dog foods. I would not feed my dog natural dog food as mostnatural dog food contain Garlic-which is toxic to DogsCats! I always carefully check the ingrediance on cat food too. Note; dont feed your cat Kangroo meat-Kangraoo feed often to your cats causes kidney failure. So the answer is no-you can not feed your cat, dog food!
Eden
Not really they can get sick and have like dierhea for a little while-then there bodies get immune 2 it-but its not going to kill them-some may get sick for a little bit-others are just fine, my dog does same thing all the time!! my cat hates it sometimes or he doesnt care until he gets hungry.

It can cause disease to the Heart and malutrition. Go to peteducation. com and it will have a list of foods a cat should not eat and what could happen.

If its just a little sometimes, then no its not a problem. However, cats require a food with higher protein content than dogs do, so if your cats are eating too much dog food then they might not be getting the necessary protein requirements and if dogs eat cat food too much then theyre getting too much protein, so its best if you seperate their food
Colin
Um....if they eat a lot of the other food it probably wont be good......Ask the vet...
Providencia
I heard from a vet that if a cat eats dog food they will eventually go blind. My dogs love cat food...but I figure that they have separte types of food for a reason. Stick to the basics I suppose.
Jodie
Its ok for them to nibble as long as it doesnt cause diarrhea or vomit. Cats have to have very specific things in thier diets, taurine is one of those things, if a cat only eats dog food it can lose its sight. I think its fine as long as the cat is eating mostly cat food.
Alline
Its ok. My little dog loved cat food. I also had to keep his weight off, so I used to feed him a Whiskers pouch every night which was 85grams. There is supposed to be different vitamins for different animals, but I dont believe that.
Alonzo
So do my pets! As far as I know it wont hurt them, maybe just a tad bit of indigestion (or gas in my dog Spunkys case! yuck!!!)

Why do cats need special cat food?
Estefana
I am just wondering why do people feed cat, cat food that they buy from the store? My nana has two cats and they eat rice, pasta and other food that she cooks. They like fish and they drink milk too! My nana never buy them any cat food. So now, I am thinking of getting a cat, a nice black and white cat! And I am confused. Do I need to buy them special cat food or can I just give my cats food that I cook myself? Thanks.

Cats are what is known as obligate-carnivores, which means that they must eat meat to stay fit and healthy. Taurine is also essential to their diet otherwise they can develop a condition known as Central Retinal Degeneration (CRD) which can cause irreversible blindness. Taurine deficiency is also one of the causes of heart murmurs in cats. Im afraid that the food your nana feeds her cats is not good for their health at all. Pasta and rice are full of carbohydrates, but unlike humans, cats cant convert carbohydrates into energy - they must eat protein (meat) for energy. Many cats are lactose-intolerant so cows milk can often give them diarrhoea. Heres a list of human foods which are bad for cats to eat. Perhaps you should show this to your Nana. Im sure she loves her cats very much and would want them to be healthy. http://www. messybeast. com/bad-foods. htmThis article has lots of information explaining why its best to feed your cat on a good quality canned food. http://www. littlebigcat. com/?action=libr…

The advantage of feeding a cat food from a petstore is that theyll get nutrients that arent in the normal "people food" that your nana is feeding her cats. This can help them live longer, have better digestive health, and fewer health problems. There is certainly nothing wrong with feeding them "people" food, but its usually better to give them cat food. Rice is very easy on cats somachs, and if your cat is ever sick, your vet may suggest feeding them it for a couple days, but again, it lacks the nutrients of cat food that youd buy in a store. I hope this helps you make your decisions! Have fun with your cat!!
Gaynelle
Hey there! Well to answer your question i think that it is more convenient for the human species to just buy food that is all ready to go! It is probably a better idea to get cat food because it has more vitamins
Patti
You can feed your cats food you prepare yourself if you have the knowledge of all the nutrition they need and are able to provide it. Most people do not. The people who make cat food do. One very important nutritional element cats need is Taurine. It is put in cat food as it provides many health benefits, and if they dont get it they are very likely to go blind. Never feed a cat dog food, since dog food does not contain taurine. You may want to supplement some meals with home made food, but you should feed your cat a vet recommended brand of food so they get the nutrition they need. What your nana is doing is dangerous. And cats should not be given cows milk, they are lactose intolerant and cant handle it. Cats have very sensitive stomachs so many foods you and I eat will make them sick. It is easier, safer, and better for your cat to just eat cat food.
Adriene
Well it depends, do you want your cat to live a long healthy life or you do want it to get fat and eventually die from heart problems?
Ileana
Chances are that the diet your nana is feeding her cats is not very balanced. Cats have very different dietary requirements than people, so its very difficult to home-cook for cats and have the recipe contain all the proteins, vitamins and minerals cats need to stay healthy. Her cats may seem fine now, but they may have trouble later in life - they may even have a much shorter lifespan than the 16-20 years most cats live today. A commercial pet food is best because you know it contains all the nutrition your cat needs. Its also much more convenient. However, if you want to cook for your cats, you should make sure your recipe is balanced by using the services on the following sites:http://www. balanceit. comhttp://www. petdiets. com

You should never give a cat human food on a regular bases, theyre very delicate digestive system is not meant to handle that. It is best to discuss with your vet the food for your kitty. If your cat does not have health problems you can feed them IAMS, PURINA, those would be my recommendation, I have three kittys I should know.
Morgan
Yes, they really *do* need special cat food. It used to be that people fed their cats table scraps, but then peoples cats also went outside and caught their own dinners. Nature created cats to be obligate carnivores - that is just a fancy way of saying that cats need to eat meat. They have no need for grains - and that includes rice and pasta - in their diets. They dont get any nutrition from it at all. And cooked meat does not provide taurine for them - thats an essential amino acid that cats cannot make in their own bodies. Its in raw meat (and would be in a mouse) but when meat is cooked the taurine is destroyed. Cats that do not get taurine eventually develop heart disease, or they go blind. Your nanas cats will survive on that diet, but they wont live as long as they should, and they certainly wont thrive. If you would like your own cat to live a life that is as long and healthy as possible, then you need to feed it cat food.
