At how old can a kitten start eating cat food?

Elodia

My cat just had four kitty babys last month and they are still drinking her milk. Do i start giving them food or when?

Evan

Your kittens are getting teeth now, and mom is very shortly going to get less patient when feeding them. At about 5 weeks, you can start offering them a dry kitten food that is moistened with warm water (not milk), or you can begin offering them a canned kitten food. As they get older, they will not need the food moistened for them. This is usually around 7 weeks of age.

Wait a good 6-8 weeks try starting them off with wet cat food. watch out the moms will eat most of it!

You should start leaving food out and around them and within the next 2 weeks and they should start munching on it. If they dont, then try mixing hard food with soft food. Try to do it before their teeth get too big or they could cut up her ****, this can cause infection.

Well, mine started eating at about 6 weeks old. They still want to nurse though. The mother will usually begin to wean them from her milk. Dont worry, whenever you put out the food for her - they will take the first bite whenever they are ready to. They see her eating. They learn from her. It wont be too long now. Dont worry, just sit back and let nature do what nature does best - everything in time. Oh by the way, congratulations!
