My cat walks around the neighborhood stealing other cats cat food all the time how do i stop it??

Glayds

My very greedy cat Ollie will walk straight into the neighbors houses (through their cat doors), at any time and steal the cat food in the bowls. It is very embarrassing. Is there anything we can do to stop it?

Asia

Keep it inside. Thats the best way. You cant just train your cat not to go to peoples houses and steal food after it is already used to it and you cant just go on the peoples property.

Keep him locked up in the house. Thats about all you can do. For outdoor adventures for Mr. Ollie you can get him a cat harness and leash, or one of those kitty condo things with the net and wire enclosures - that will give him a chance to enjoy being outside without being able to pig out on the neighbors meals.

Oh, I am so sorry. . . what a clever cat. Do you have a lot of neighbors with cat doors? They need to understand that any animal has free access to their homes if they have an opening in their house. The main problem would be the reaction of the other cat to Ollie in their home, or the reaction of your neighbors. Do they get angry? This could cause kitty fights. But as far as the food goes, the neighbors better feed while they are watching or block their doors. If it becomes real concern, I guess Ollie may need to be housebound. I cant help but laugh, picturing your cat helping himself to his neighboring cats food - but of course at this point, it is Ollies welfare that is important. Well, maybe soon enough, he will be too large to get through those doors! If they dont free feed, maybe you can find out what part of the day they feed. Then keep Ollie in at that part of the day. Eventually, he will come to find that there is no food when he visits, and stop trying. If you are on good terms with your neighbors, perhaps you can suggest that they use a squirt bottle when they see Ollie either entering their house, or inside the house and see if this discourages him, relaying the information that if it does not work you will keep him in, for awhile. Is he happy with his own "selection"?

If Mr. Ollie is outside IT IS VERY CRUEL to trap him INSIDE! Just go and get one of those cat fence things hey cant jump over and cant climb just put him in that and have him food in there. IF that doesnt work sorta treat him like a dog if he eats the other cats food then tell him no! If he eats his own food give him a treat! HOPE THIS HELPED YA!

Alyssa

Yeah easy... keep your cat in the house like it should be.

If your cat is an outside cat like I understood in your question, DO NOT keep your cat locked up inside! Its like torture. If he is outside a lot and loves being there, He wont last staying inside. You really cant do anything to make your cat from getting the food, but there are a few ways to prevent it:-if its bothering your neighbors that he keeps doing that, its really their problem because they should lock the cat door. if deer and raccoons come through the cat door and steel the food, why cant your cat? You cant tell an animal "You cant go there and there and there! Only there!" They are animals, like your cat, he is an animal too. Its not your fault.-If they dont want to lock the door, they could get a cat door that comes with a magnetic key.' Yes a key. Its pretty small and it goes on the collar like a tag; when their cat comes near the door it will unlock automatically (it works kind of like a magnet but not quite), the door is always locked unless there cat approaches with the key on there collars. No one can get in but them. here is and example: http://pet. imageg. net/graphics/product_i…If they dont do that, then you cant do anything about it. They dont like it they have to fix that problem themselves. By the way, if they complain and tell you to keep your cat inside, why do you have to keep your cat in while there cat is out? Dont be embarrassed, its not something you can control, if they care about the food and that they buy it on their money they will do something themselves. Also it is not trespassing for your cat because he is an animal. He may go as he pleases. It is not very nice and not excepted by people, but animals kind of have the right.
