Whats the best kind of cat food for a 2 month old kitten?

Burt

Right now i give her dry Purina Kitten Chow and every few days she gets some wet Purina Pro Plan that my neighbor gave to me. She also gets some fresh meat every few days. What do you think is the best cat food for her? shes an indoor cat.

Maddie

IAMS for kittens is the best for a kitten, kitten food really is the best, animals arent supposed to eat "human food" it doesnt have all of the nutrients that kitten food does, which is especially important at a young age. Fresh meat should be given sparingly as it can cause digestion problems later on. Purina isnt really a great brand to begin with, if you are looking for really inexpensive try something like Friskies, but stick to a cat food made especially for kittens, its higher in protein and other nutrients need to help them grow.

Hubert

Thats ok what you are giving her, you can try some cans also

Danyel

IAMS for kittens is pretty good if you soak it in water for awile

A raw meat diet is the best possible one for her. You can chop up a raw chicken wing into about four pieces, give a small amount of raw liver and a raw chicken heart - all easy to acquire from the chicken you are preparing for chicken salad or a roast dinner. She must eat it raw. Purina is a poor quality food. Give her some canned meat - Natural Balance, Avoderm, Innova, CA Natural, Felidae, Lick Your Chops, Blue etc. Meat is much better for her than any dry cereal food.

Purina really isnt the best food for your kitten. Our shelter veterinarian suggests Science Diet or Innova canned wet kitten food along with dry. Once shes an adult, you can switch her to just dry food - cats dont really need wet food. Dry food is a better choice because the crunchy texture keeps their teeth clean, but wet good is good for an occasional treat. But for now, you want her to put on weight and keep growing, so wet food is good. Personally, I recommend Innova. Its the best food that Ive found - all natural with the highest quality ingredients. Truthfully, a raw, all-meat diet is not best for your cat. I know this is a popular fad right now, due to the pet food recall, but it is not recommended by vets. According to Cornell Veterinary Hospital, it is best to feed cats a proper formulated diet because cats need plenty of vitamins and nutrients that are not present in meat. It is easy to leave out these requirements by accident unless you are giving them special vitamin and nutritional supplements along with the raw meat. If this does not happen, your cat will not be getting the nutrition they need and may get sick or have poor coat and skin. Best to do your research on the internet on the highest quality cat food and consult with your vet on what you should feed her. Good luck!

That sounds good.

Purina is an extremely low quality food. As Cat Lady mentioned, Innova is one of the best quality foods for your cat, beyond making the food yourself. Im not really an advocate for raw diets but those who have the time and knowledge to make them, are really doing the right thing for their cat. Personal, Innova is so similar to a raw food diet, I prefer the convenience of that. People, you need to understand the majority of foods on the market are NOT good for your pets. Yes, even those that are highly recommended by your vet contain dangerous ingredients. If you want to find a high quality food, you need to do your research and then head to a pet speciality store. Most of the higher end companies will not sell their products to chain stores because the employees do not know the first thing about pet nutrition. If you want your pets to live long healthy lives, think natural, whole, fresh foods! Just like we should be eating!
