My friend's dog today was having trouble passing wastes. He was outside a long time, sitting in that 'crouching' position, trying to poop. A bit later, he pooped multiple places on her carpet. The stool seemed normal; it didn't seem tarry, there was nothing red in it, and was mostly firm, though a tad loose. There isn't anything new in his diet. He is eating the same food (TOTW) that he's eaten for about a year now, though he had a little bit of tuna water earlier today (they give it to their cats, but he had a lick or two before my friend called him away from it).I am, however, slightly concerned about a rawhide he ate on Sunday. Two, actually; he stole their other dog's rawhide also. It was the type that seems normal at first glance but intertwined with that red stuff? (Paws brand)Is it possible that the rawhide caused an obstruction? He's had them before, and has only once been ill by them a few years ago when he ate a Dingo rawhide my friend didn't know was recalled. Even then, he merely vomited and was fine after that. My friend has been cutting back on rawhides when she found out they had a lot of calories, and so was it possible his system just wasn't used to it? He's been acting normal otherwise; just a tad lethargic.

I'm concerned about my pets health. I have a small dog age 12 and I have just recently adopted 2 old cats which came with the "science diet" biscuits for weight loss. I've been feeding my dog "macro kangaroo mince" and "Royal Canine" senior dog biscuits for years and recently I tried feeding my dog "Dr. Bruce's Vets all natural senior dog mix" mixed into the macro kangaroo mince for 2 months and he seemed to have more energy. Then he stopped eating it. So in the last few weeks I have been feeding my dog the "Royal Canine" dog biscuits and Marco kangaroo mince once again. My dog has been feeling less energetic and is sleeping a lot more. I'm not sure if it's the food, the hot weather, or maybe he is just having a lazy week. Could it be the "Royal Canine" dog biscuits ? Is the "Dr. Bruce's Vets all natural senior dog mix" OK for him to eat? Also what do I feed my cats? Hey guys, could do with a little professional help, bit of an awkward one. :( The cat is 2 year old tom. About 6months ago he had stones completely blocking his bladder. He was taken in, catheterised, all sorted and sent home. Has peed like a trooper since, no problems. For the last six months on and off he has experienced the same repeating symptoms.-Weight fluctuation, he seems to gain a lot, but without getting "fat" he seems kind of bloated for weeks at a time, then slims down in a matter of days. Then back again.-Dark irregular stools. he received various medications for this for 4ish months after having the stones (he was peeing freely but had not been for a poo for 8 days at one point.) Lactulose and pain killers, cystease to help reline his bladder (as best i can recall) something somewhere helped fix him up a little, he now goes every 3-4days, and medicaation was stopped to see if his system would return to normal itself.- Bald patches around two 'nipple' type protrusions on his lower belly, they look red and sore. This happens frequently, but clears up quickly and the vet has not seen it up to yet. He is an outdoor cat, at the vets request as they think the stones were caused by stress and this will releive it. His behaviour doesn't seem to have changed at all, he is friendly and playful, inquisitive and mildly oblivious to his weight gain. When he had the stones he was only ever in pain on the litter tray, but it was easy to spot, he does not seem to have any pain now, but he does spend a much longer time digging around the litter tray before going number for a poo. He is not outdoors all night ever, and is rarely out all day. He does not eat a lot, he is on prescription diet dry food to prevent stones (will he have to be on this forever?) he is on the dry food because he would not eat the wet at all. Today special litter was left at 9am, he hadn't used litter tray by 4:00, so took him to the vet so they could get a sample, but his bladder was empty so no joy. The vet said take him back in a month and see how he goes, because they don't know what's causing the problems. His poo is becoming darker each time, and the vet said he'd gained an awful lot of weight - but he only eats about half of the recommended amount of prescription food for his size as it is, and he is on a strict diet at home. The only vet suggestion was that someone else is feeding him too, but it seems unlikely to me as when he is out he is mostly in sight, and it just doesn't seem to answer everything else..Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this, i honestly just tried to keep it basic. Any help would be gratefully appreciated, by myself and Frankie the cat. x

Cat with various issues...and the vet "doesn't understand what's going on"?
Well, I looked up the Kroger Re-call and it says that a lot of the Pet Pride foods for cats are on re-call, also Old Yeller dog food.. BUT, they didn't say anything about Pet Pride PUPPY food. I have been feeding my Doxie mix this food and for the past 2 evenings she has thrown up and been depressed/lethargic... which they say on the re-call are 2 huge symptoms the poisoned pets have been showing. I am not for certain because like i said, the re-call hasn't said anything about the puppy food, just cat food and the old yeller brand food that kroger sells. The recall was issued because some of the products may contain aflatoxin, a fungus-produced carcinogen found in some corn. One guy said he just buried his 9 month old German Shepherd who has been healthy but recently before he died, he became anorexic and lethargic.. he was feeding the pet pride puppy.. same as what i am feeding. Someone advice plz! What should I do??

Kroger pet food recall.. Plz help!!!?
I have two cats. Stewie, the fat one is 14.5 lbs oriental shorthair mix, shelter adopted, 18 months old. The skinny one is a 9 lbs Maine coon female, 20 months old, adopted from a shelter but bred by a backyard breeder who was not good (as the person who purchased her as kitten felt better turning her into the shelter than returning her to the breeder). At 9 lbs she Bellatrix is small for a pure breed coon. The vet says that she is fine but I can feel all of her bones when I pet her. They both get a 1/4 cup of purina one DRY cat food a day (though the fat one eats most of it) and she gets 2/3 of a purina can of WET food everyday and the boy gets 1/3 can of WET food everyday. In addition she gets an extra 2/3 of can every other day. This has been their food rations for months. They get purina brand because it is the best I can afford, it has never been recalled, has a good reputation and high standards but most importantly it's what they were fed as kittens and won't eat anything else. I am very attentive to their needs and sit with them for every meal to make sure he doesn't bully her or take her share. She is a very very active cat. Her coat is thick and shiny, it feathers and is thick in all the right places. She is as affectionate and easily as a Maine coon should be. My guesses are that her skinniness is a - due to poor breeding or b - I haven't a clue. Please help, despite my best care, I can still feel most of her bones, I can feel, easily every rib bone. At this point I am worried about her weight that I am thinking about replacing some of her wet food rations with kitten food to fatten her up. To summarize, vet says she's ok. I can feel all her bones, coat and poop are fine, she gets wet (4 oz) and dry food (1/4 cup) everyday. She is extremely active and affectionate. She is also a master climber and a master fly hunter. But her light weight worries me a lot.

Our experiance with dogs - We had a Terrior called Maggie for eleven years, starting when I was eight. She knew basic commands, but was a bit of a tear away, she liked stealing food, would bark for attention which often meant all day if we were out, and was nervous around certain men and people on skateboards. My sisters have had a golden retriever and a cavoodle between them. We have moved to England from overseas and since we have been here we have alot more resources to raising a well behaved, trained dog and books and services tend to be alot cheaper. I have read a book by the dog whisperer on raising a puppy successfully and watched several episodes of ''Its Me or the Dog''' on TV. Why I want a dog - there are many reasons I would like a dog. I greatly miss the companionship of our previous dog and think we could offer a good home to a dog in a shelter or raise a puppy now that we have better support from books, the tv, internet and different organisations. I would like a dog to accompany me on walks, one to snuggle with while I watch tv, one to train and teach tricks and one to use as a subject in my photography - my sister has two cats and a dog and the challenge of photographing them has greatly improved her skills. Training - I am willing to set aside 2-2 1/2 hours a day to walk my dog, and my mum has agreed to walk him for 1. Once the dog has proper recall and has been socialised we will regullary take him places he or she can be let off to run and burn off any excess energy. I want to crate train my dog has I have heard it has many benefits and I would like to use a clicker to teach him to do things/give praise. I would like to get a Border Collie, and if we did I would take him to agility or flyball classes on a regular basis. I have some books saved on Amazon specifically for Border Collies, tricks to teach your dog and games to play with your dog to ensure the dog gets the proper mental stimulation he requires. Zach - a Collie Cross (?) from a dog shelter that we have walked three times. We suspected he was a Collie cross because he was extremely athletic, tried herding us and was obviously very intelligent. He loved fetching things, playing with sticks, bottles and toys he came across or we brought for him on walks and loved catching/eating snow. He is seven years old and a joy to be around but has some aggression towards new dogs - we were told at the shelter he was good with other dogs, but at the start of the walk he and another dog lunged towards each other, possibly with the intention to bite. Not sure who initiated the attack and if it was even Zach's fault. He also has some anxiety issues in the car which may be due to him not being properly restrained and just getting some space to roam in the boot, so possibly getting a seatbelt designed for dogs, or crate training him could help this problem as well as some light training, building up the distance of trips in the car until he is comfortable with being in there. I have noticed that Zach is good with my camera and does not mind being photographed which is a definate plus. A puppy - has no previous training, but also no issues so it would be like starting with a clean state, and it may be easier to socialize and train, and I would get to watch her grow up. I want to get a dog that will accept me as the pack leader even though I am the youngest person in my family (and a female) with a soft voice, that is not prone to barking or can easily be trained out of it and will be okay living with cats and other dogs at some point. Originally I listed qualities I would like in an ideal dog but alot of those qualities are developed by training or are associated with breed so I don't think I need to worry.1. Do you think I should get Zach, or a puppy?2. How can I train a dog to feel settled in a car, good on a lead and relaxed around other dogs? What should I do if two dogs (one of them being mine) approach each other and show aggression? (not barking but snapping or growling). How can I encourage a dog to stay in the car without running out into the street when I open the door?3. Is it much harder to train a 7 year old dog? will he ever accept me as the pack leader and show more affection towards me than he does now?4. What experiance do you have with Border Collies?5.
