Newly adopted cat not eating.. Help!?
Gahhh...OK so my cats still will not eat Wellness in dry form. I can pour liquified chiken on it, spike it with their favorite wet food, mix it with the leftover dry purina...no go unless I soak it and mash a tiny bit into a wad of wet food. Wellness is the ONLY kibble I'm willing to feed them (only premium brand in my area other than Innova and California Natural, which as we all know aren't an option anymore unless you actually trust Proctor and Gamble-what a laugh) I could order other foods, but who knows if they'll like them anyways? I'm ready to go RAW! It's been looming on the horizon for some time, but I was scared by vets telling me it was nutritionally incomplete and dangerous. As for nutritional needs, I want to get a pre-made raw food. As for danger concerns (and they ARE valid, I know someone who's cat died of the bacteria/parasites in their homemade raw diet) I want to either get a sterilized raw diet, which have heard about, or use a method myself to kill the bad stuff. I only have a standard freezer and cannot buy a really good one, so can someone help me please? Bonus points if you know of one for ferrets as well. I am also planning to eat some myself a day ahead of time to make sure-if it doesn't make me sick, it wont make THEM sick, right?

PLEASE help with pre-made raw food?
Three out of four of my animals are now disabled. Tabitha (my soon-to-be 15 year old cat) is the only one still perfectly normal, but I'm sure she could use some type of support for aging cats. First off-Tigger is my 13 year old tabby, possibly part Siberian. She is 15.2 pounds (down in the last couple monthes from 15.6 due to forced excercise) and she has arthritis. Both cats also have chin acne. I frequently clean their metal bowls and when they have flair-ups and strip the hair off their chins and use clearasil astringent, which clears it up. I have already switched them from Purina dry to Wellness dry with Wellness wet food several times daily on an "on-demand" basis. I have bought them a Drinkwell Platinum, which they will not use, so I scatter several bowls of water (purifed only) throughout the house. I use Turmeric on Tigger's food and am looking at adding Cosequin, but will not use any drugs on any animals unless it is a life threatening thing. She is not severe and has improved a bit. Rascal and Keawea are my 6 year old Marshall Farms ferrets purchased from the pet store (ugh I know, but I was only 13 and my dad bought them for me. I know better now.) Rascal had an adrenalectomy for a tumor 2 years ago and they discovered he has a blood clotting disorder. He survived but bears a permanent hernia and enlarged spleen. He is otherwise healthy other than a blackhead covered tail. Keawea has a huge benign mast cell tumor which they don't want to remove due to her being Rascal's littermate and at risk for bleeding problems. Nothin has worked to shrink it and it bleeds intermittantly. I am worried about blood loss when she bites it, and infection. We currently use Texas Pete hot sauce on it to discourage biting, but she's developing a taste for it.. She is also almost completely blind, which they are pretty sure are due to cataracts, which they don't want to put her under anesthesia to remove (and we don't think it's worth the risk) She is otherwise very active and healthy and both ferrets are considered by the vet to be in fantastic shape for their age. Both are perfect weight and eat 8-in-one kibble per vet instuctions with ferrelax given sometimes, along with Furotone. They get no treats. They live in a 5 foot tall 4 level cage with hammocks, a cat condo, and tubes to go up and down layers and come out almost daily to play. I hover over both due to Rascal's spleen and Keawea's eyesight. I am thinking of switching ALL to a premade sterilized frozen raw diet. Is there anything I can do (withOUT drugs) to help any of them? Maybe supplements, or some type of physical therapy or acupressure? Heck I'm open to anything. These are my 4 legged children and I'd go to the ends of the earth for any given one of them

Natural help for disabled pets?
My two senior cats (although not as senior as I thought! They are only 13 and one's about to turn 14) were eating Purina because the vet reccomended it and my mom wouldn't budge, although she did let me start feeding them canned food too, so they've been getting a spoonful each whenever they scream at me (I buy all different kinds of Innova (all flavors in regular, flex, and evo), all different kinds of Wellness, and sometimes stuff like Before Grain or California Natural to give them variety) I figured I can't stop my mom from free-feeding anyways so they might as well eat as much wet food (and as little of the icky Purina) as possible. Well I finally convinced my mom because the vet told her that the good foods had too much protein but I showed her that Purina has more. SO glad to be ditching the unhealthy crap, I'm actually really excited lol. We need to buy canned food tomorrow anyways so I'll pick up whatever they have of the good stuff in dry as well to start switching, but after that I want to get them on Wellness Indoor for the long run. One cat is a perfect weight (9.8) , but the younger one is 15.6 and pretty obese, although I'm working on that with exercise. I checked the analysis of all the Innova and Wellness foods and the Wellness Indoor has the lowest protein (the ONLY way my mom would budge) and the lowest fat other of course than the low fat cat foods which a lot of people say to avoid for some reason. My cats are both healthy and active except Tigger has arthritis, which I'm working on with the exercise and I'm adding Turmeric to her food. (I'm not willing to put her on kidney-stressing steroids) She still does play, and Tabitha runs all over the house . So does it sound like I'm doing the right thing? I'm hoping it might actually help Tigger's arthritis to be getting such better nutrition, but at the very least it'll improve her internal health. Can I expect to see them be more active, grow shinier coats, anything like that? I need some good physical evidence to convince my mom to stick with it once she pays for it a couple times. I understand about the teeth, but I learned to home-scale my animal's teeth with my border collie, and I've been trying to figure out how to pin down my cats to do the same. Most wet food probably DOES have lots of additional sugar and things, but I only buy premium, natural, wet food, plus I'l stand right in the store and read every single can to select the very I shy away from. My dog died of a brain tumor, so I'm extremely serious about my animal's health, and learned a lot about nutrition in the course of trying to treat her alternatively after the vets gave up and we couldn't find any specialists willing to trymeant to say I read the cans to select the best of the best and even shy away from certain types of Innova

Switching my cats from Purina to Wellness Indoor?
She was losing weight but since I have changed her diet - she has gained weight and feels a lot healthier. It's only been a couple of days. I thought maybe she was having a thyroid problem but now I think she's ok. What do you think? She's about 12 years old. I don't know her exact age b/c she was a rescue. She's a persian mix - been healthy. She's active and affectionate. -- She was feeling bony but it seems to be b/c she didn't like Natural Harmony Farms cat food. I switched to Purina One and will be trying out Nutro Max - she's eating more - she already feels like she's gained back the weight she lost - not all - but a good portion. She's usually a healthy weight. Ok - I am interested in Wellness - do cats like this even though it's healthy? Natural Harmony Farms is not good food? It seems like the ingredients were good. I'm aware that these brands are not the best. I was trying to balance b/t healthy and what she will eat. -- I'll keep it. She's due soon for an annual anyway. I don't want to take any chances. She's been healthy - really no problems. She gets her teeth cleaned once a year.

Do you think this senior cat should still see the vet on Monday?

What is the best brands out of these cat foods?
SUMMARY AT BOTTOMI have a 5.5 lb. DSH named Annabelle. Really, she's not a very big cat. She's at a healthy weight, in that she doesn't have fat, you can sorta feel her ribs (but they're no where near pronounced), and is quite active. We've had her for about 15 months (found her as a stray), and she's only put on 'essential' weight (what she didn't have when she was starving). Since she's only about 2 years old, is on a mainly dry (Purina Naturals - shiver. Trying to convince mother that Innova is the way to go-) and some wet (9-Lives - Waaah D=-) diet, free fed, will she start to gain a lot more weight as she gets over, or do most cats start to put on the pounds at 2? She herself is very active without needing to be enticed, looooves to run around and chase the dog when given the chance (dog doesn't run much), and tackle anything that resembles a string. DENTAL QUESTION: When we got Annabelle, one of her bottom front teeth was entirely missing, and the tip of one of her flesh-shreders was gone. Her teeth are yellowish and her breath smells like fish food. What are some ways I can improve her dental health? She drinks out of the fish tank instead of the water bowl (we can't put anything on the fish tank and it's in really easy access for her), and won't chew on anything if she can't just use her back teeth and then swallow. It makes me concerned that eating hurts her. I've given her raw chicken before, which she adored. But, the larger the pieces, the less time she spent on them, since she couldn't just bring it right into her mouth. A bit about the size of a baby's fingernail? Sure. About the size of an adults? Too much. SUMMARY:My cat is 5.5 lbs and 2 years old. Her diet is pretty low quality yet she is very active. will she put on more weight as she ages? My cat has broken and missing teeth. If food is bigger then a dime, she won't eat it. How can I improve her dental health? (her teeth were cracked and missing when we found her as a stray)Picture of my cat:Now:http://s189.photobucket. com/albums/z307/ALittleRockToldMe/?action=view&current=wadawada043.jpghttp://s189.photobucket. com/albums/z307/ALittleRockToldMe/?action=view&current=wadawada046.jpgWhen we found her:http://s189.photobucket. com/albums/z307/ALittleRockToldMe/?action=view&current=BenitoandLieahsb-daypartypics039.jpghttp://s189.photobucket. com/albums/z307/ALittleRockToldMe/?action=view&current=BenitoandLieahsb-daypartypics025.jpgVery true. I've been bugging my mom about getting the cat and dog's teeth cleaned, but neither of my parents have a lot of funds to fork up for a vet visit (middle of a divorce), so I was wondering something else - I've heard bones and raw food can do good for teeth. True? False? Pinkies? Alright, I'll talk to my mom about brining her to the vet. Aren't only some vets equipped with the right equipment to clean teeth? What are some in WI with the proper equipment who aren't too expensive?

Will she get heavier as she gets older? Dental question too?
I have a kitty who is fat and on medication that makes her eat a lot...so we got this food and it made her puke and the dog too. And then we got this 9 lives food and she upchucked twice and the dog did once also.....So we bought Purina Naturals because we are trying to find a better food, and no puke yet. However, I went into my room today and it reaked. Like anus really bad. So it smelled on random spots on the floor and her butt was even worse. I gave her a bath but her butt still smelled a bit and so I used a wet one a while ago and it's slightly better. She is acting normally I think. It smelled on random spots on the floor so I cleaned my floor and it's a bit better now. Why is she reacting this way, and what do I do about it?

Why does my cat's butt smell?
I am looking for a great quality food for my Harvie. When I first got him.. He was on the worst cat food out there... Dollar General catfood... dry and moist... He didnt seem to eat it much.. So I decided to buy him Nutro Cat Max and he loved it. Then one day I get an email that Nutro has been recalled. So I return the stuff I have cause Im not sure if it was effected.... trade it in get a new bag that definitely wasnt on the list.... then a few months go by....I need a new bag of food and I look on the Nutro website for recall info and its gone.... Like they are covering up that it didnt happen.. when it did. I then try several foods... right now thats what hes on... a mixture of Meow Mix wholesome Goodness, Healthiful Life Purina and Natural Balance. I thought Natural balance sounded perfect for him... and they test the food for bad stuff in it.... Problem is.... the pieces of food are huge... I did just get the regular in it... I hate that they only sell it at Petco.... I like shopping more at Petsmart.... But will goto Petco if need be. If you have any good stories or horror stories on food please let me hear them..... I really want to find a really good food for Harvie. Also I couldnt make him a raw diet... he is really picky on any moist food and would probably not eat the raw diet that is pre-made either. I cant give him great quality canned food... he Likes Meow Mix Market Selects, Fancy Feast and the Meow Mix WHolesome Goodness canned food. I bought Nutro and a few other premium brands... he would either lick it once or not at all. Please help! thanks

What is the best cat food out there for my Persian cat Harvie... No Iams or Science Diet?
My cat’s allergic to something. I adopted my cat at 5 years old from the local animal shelter. The vet stated he might be part wild cat because, he has a fairly large head. He weights now at 17 pounds (and he’s not heavy nor fat). He’s very large boned. He’s orange & white. On his orange fur he has dark orange spots and a real dark orange strip down his spin. He’s a male cat, fixed. Please read below, any advise or anything would be helpful. In Summer, 2009 I adopted an Orange & White Domestic Short Hair Male cat. He was 5 years old and I adopted him from the local shelter. When I got him home, he had upper respiratory infection and couldn’t keep anything down. His eyes were watery, sneezing, throwing anything and everything up. He become very weak. He went to several vets, several medications later and no one could cure him. Then finally, a vet recommended feeding him cooked ground chicken. Over a week later almost magically, he was better. We’ve tired the following foods (both wet & dry): Wellness, Natural Balance, Fancy Feast, Wellness CORE, Newman’s Own, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Iams, Science Diet, Eunkuba, Meow Mix, Purina One, Sheba. We’ve tired mixing it in and he’ll eat it but, then he’ll throw everything up. The problem is not him eating cat food it’s he throws it up and can’t stop. He then gets real sick afterwards. Over 7 months later, he’s still eating ground chicken. We realize there are other cats out there but, we love this cat. He doesn’t jump on things (like normal cats do), he never scratches, he loves attention, and really he’s almost the perfect cat. He’s everything you’d ever want in a cat. He loves dogs, cats, kids. He’s a phenomenal cat. The only thing I’ve come up with is: he’s somehow allergic to possibly wheat, grain or any additives/fillers in cat food. He’s allergic to something. Because when I mixed rice in with his chicken he got real ill as well. Symptoms: His eyes get watery, he starts throwing up and he starts slightly shaking as he’s throwing up. He gets real weak. I’ve tossed around the idea of maybe there’s an under lined problem however, he doesn’t drink a lot of water. He loves regular cat food too. When I got him from the humane society the only weird thing was. They never gave him all of his update shots. I have no idea what to do. Please keep in mind two different vets, from two difference places recommended me doing this from the start. It’s getting expensive to feed him chicken. Any advice or help please.

My cat’s allergic to something.?
My mom is unwilling to switch to canned cat food...so my poor babies have to eat dry kibble..Right now their eating Purina Naturals (full of all those awful fillers)..if I can at least supplement their diet with canned cat food, will that help? I'm only 15 so I'm on a major budget, but I found Authority canned cat food (I know it's not great, but for the price, it's much better than that Purina crap...right??)Are there any other budget friendly canned cat foods that are good quality? I know of all sorts of brands that are really good, but I can't afford them right now :(The next one I 'may' be able to afford would be Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul - not perfect, but definitely better...Well, my major question is; if their diet is supplemented with canned cat food, will that be better than just Purina Naturals alone? Is there a kind of dry kibble that is decent quality? I heard they all contain fillers, but there must be something better than what they have now, right? Thanks in advance!! :)
