What brand of cat food would u recommend and why?

I want to spoil my cat! and i want him to have cat food that is well known and healthy yet at the same time tasty for my soon to be cat. Also do you think i should use catnip for my cat???

Is there an alternative thats cheaper for vet prescribed cat food?

My cat has crystals in her urine that built up and made her bleed in her pee, now the vet says she must stay on a vet prescribed cat food they carry, but its a pretty penny. What else can I do or is there any cheaper brands or could I mix some of her old dry food w/ the vet one? I love her and hate to sound so cheap, and I want her to live a healthy carefree life, so just wondered if anyone else had same issue, any advice helps!

Which type of cat food is better orijen cat food or go natural cat food?

I would like to switch my cats food over to one of the above foods but cant decide which is better. Both have been recalled in the past but years ago and both have natural ingredients. Any suggestions or feedback from anyone whom has previously used Orijen Go Natural Cat Food would be greatly appreciated.

Should i buy the 16 lb cat food if i have only 1 cat?

Dry cat foods are cheaper in large quantity, as with everything else. But should I buy the huge bags if I have only 1 cat? Would the food goes bad if it is opened and not consumed w. a certain time?

How can i feed my cat wet cat food without him crapping and throwing up everywhere? ?

Its annoying! Someone said to feed him wet cat food during the winter, but I tried and he threw up everywhere. How do I get him to hold it in?

Our cats seem to be getting sick alot lately off their cat food?

My cats always throw up after they eat a certain brand of soft cat food, Purina Friskies (salmon). I was just wondering if there has been any recalls on cat food lately? Or is it possible they are just sick of that particular kind? Weve always fed them this brand for like forever.

At what age do you start a kitten on cat food?

My cat had one kitten three weeks ago and of course is still nursing....but I was wondering when I should start introducing cat food into the kittens diet?

Is it okay to feed a 2 year old cat dry cat food meant for cats over 8 years old?

My husband bought cat food for senior cats. He said it is okay as it is only softer. What is the difference between senior cat food and adult cat food?

What is the best dry cat foodkittens in califronia that comes in a bag that at least lasts for 10 days?

Best dry cat food that is healthy(sry i dont really know much about best food for kittens.) I had heard somewhere that cats under 1 year of age have to eat the same kind of food for their first year.(havent got a cat yet but deciding wanna make sure we got everything)Thanks.

How can i make my maltipoo dog stop eating the cat food?

Ive taken the cat food away from her and just left the dog food, but it seems like she wont touch it she will starb herself til i give her dry cat food. Is cat food healthy for her? Or is she doing this cause she shes the cat eat her food.

What organic cat food should i feet my cat?

Hi there, I have a one year old korat kitten named Alfie. He is extremely hyperactive and hardly ever calms down! I have been told that this is to do with the food I feed him - any ideas on some organic cat food that will calm him down? Thank you!

How long is soft cat food good for in the refrigerator?

How long can I keep a can of open Soft cat food in the fridge before it gets bad for the cat to eat?

When do i start my cat on adult formula cat food?

She is 9 months old today and looks like an adult cat, but Im still feeding her the kitten formula dry food. Just wondering when to start the adult formula....Thanks for your help!

Does adult cat food eaten by a kitten have any major ramifications for the kittens overall health?

We have a 20 month and a 5 month old cat living together, so we need to watch when theyre eating their wet food together, because the the kitten will try and eat the adults food, which we stop. Im mainly asking because a friend who also has had cats for years, from kittens, has only ever fed them adult food and theyve grown up fine.

What should i do about my cat not finishing her food? should i give her something different?

My cat is 5 months now and at first, she would finish her food for everytime I fed her. I know since she is getting older, I would have to feed her more. However, for the last two weeks, she wouldnt even finish her food. Perhaps thats a sign to give her something different but if it is, whats the best brand for cat foods? Ive been feeding her Whiskas, Friskies (canned foods) and Purina (dry foods) since I got her.

What kind of cat food do you feed a new mother cat?

My best friends cat just gave birth. She is about 1 yr and 4 months old. What kind of cat food is best for a nursing mother? Should she feed her Kitten food?

Cat food marketing and the silly things they do?

Juliann

Dont you think its strange to see a bunch of fruits and vegetables on the front of cat food? Cats cant even digest that stuff, why advertise it? If I were them Id put lots of meat on the front. What do you think?

Aretha

Im so much in agreement with you, I was tempted to use my caps lock key. In fact, here goes. HOLY CRAP, YOURE SO RIGHT! Unfortunately, theyre selling to us instead of cats. If they marketed to cats wed have lovely bloody carcasses on the labels. I usually spit when I see these commercials, and when Im in the grocery store, if I feel like getting all dramatic, I just pick up a can or a bag and start reading the label. The other thing I despise about them is the niched foods - ones targeting breeds and age groups. Pfft!

Ardelle

Well, certain elements of those ingredients are usually present in the food. I dont think Ive ever seen a bunch of fruits, but cats definitely can eat leafy greens and grains. Usually what I see is a cut of fish, a pile of oats, and some meat and grass. The grains and greens provide fiber, as well as some vitamins and nutrients Im sure. I think you absolutely have a point, though. With all of the health-consciousness that is being encouraged today, it probably makes pet parents feel like theyre making responsible choices in feeding their cats a well-balanced food when they see pictures of all the supposed ingredients, just as they would feel feeding their family a well-balanced diet. Id just like to add that if one of the vegetables youve commonly been seeing is corn, thats because most pet kibble (for cats or dogs) is primarily made with corn. I have dogs and cats, and my dogs are actually a breed that commonly gets an itchy skin allergy from corn, so we had to change their food.

Alessandra

Why do you care its a commercail its not really in there they are just saying the nutrients are in there

Lucilla

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT...MY CATS FOOD HAS CATS ON IT

Danna

Eh, it appeals to people because it looks like what would be a balanced meal for a human. I stopped paying attention to the commercials, I found the best dry food so far...Innova Evo cat food. its pricey, but gives really good nutrition...the cats have soft and shiny coats, lots of energy, and they love the food.

Nichol

I agree its ridiculous. They are just trying to "cash in" on the human research that more fruits and vegetables are a better diet for us. That doesnt apply to cats. I make a raw food meat diet for my cats that has no vegetables matter at all. I also use canned foods and mostly the ones that are predominantly meat. If I buy one with vegetables my cats eat the meat and leave the carrots and peas on their plate.

Adelaide

Are you talking about that beneful for cats commercial? They have all that stuff in dog food, which is okay, dogs need that stuff, but cats are carnivores. Leads people to beleive that cats will eat anything like dogs will. Grain is not good for them, but some of the veggy ingredients are good for vitamins, minerals and amino acids and such. It still leads people to beleive that what is good for one species (Im thinking human species here) is good for another and its not.

I need help choosing a new cat food?

Gail

I did not realize how disgusting the ingredients can be in pet food until I visited the vet yesterday. My cats food is currently Fancy Feast. He loves it but Im afraid it may not be very good for him. He needs a variety of flavors, otherwise he stops eating altogether. Thats how I ended up with Fancy Feast in the first place, they have so many flavors. I want to feed my cat the best quality food possible. Any suggestions? High cost is not a problem.

Lucien

PLEASE, if you are serious about actually feeding a good quality food do not listen to the other postings. Fancy Feast is a low quality food but Iams, Science Diet, and Purina are all the same quality as Fancy Feast and they cost more. The problem is that all of these companies use disgusting ingredients but because people dont understand the ingredient list, they believe the claim that their good for them. Here are the ingredients of Iams, Science Diet and PurinaIams:-CHICKEN-CHICKEN BY PRODUCTS (the feet, feathers, beeks, undeveloped eggs, ograns of dead, disease, or dying animals)-CORN GRITS (low grade filler with not nutritional value)-CORN MEAL(more low grade filler with no nutrition)-FISH MEAL (undetermined type of fish)-DRIED BEET PULP (undigestible filler)-DRIED EGG PRODUCT (egg shells or those unfit for humans)Sience Diet (this is the vet prescribe diet)-BREWERS RICE (rice fraction)-CHICKEN BY PRODUCTS-CORN GLUTEN MEAL-PORK FAT (cats do not digest pork)-CHICKEN LIVER (contains high levels of toxins)-preserved with BHA/BHT (this is a CHEMICAL preservative proven to cause cancer)Purina:-CHICKEN-BREWERS RICE-CORN GLUTEN MEAL-POULTRY BY PRODUCTS (they dont specify what type of meat)-WHEAT FLOUR (no nutrition, common allergen)-BEEF TALLOW (low grade fat for flavouring, no nutrition)-CORN-WHEAT GLUTEN (the startch from the wheat)-FISH MEAL (unspecificed source)So, Im sure that you can see now that all three of these foods have pretty much NO nutritional value and have those disgusting things that you were talking about like chicken feet, corn, wheat, and on and on. Most surprising, and an area that I am really trying to educate people on, is that vets are still prescribing these low grade foods. Science Diet has cancer causing chemicals in them so WHY ARE VETS STILL PRESCRIBING THEM....the answer is money. So, here is where you need to look for food that are actually good quality. I am a pet food nutritionist and I will only deal with Natura Pet Foods - Innova, California Natural and Karma because they are the healthiest foods in the world. Here are the ingredients in Innova:-TURKEY-CHICKEN MEAL-CHICKEN-POTATOES-EGGS-BARLEY-CHICKEN FAT-RICE-HERRING-SUNFLOWER OIL-APPLES-CARROTSNotice the difference? Pet food companies are required to list ingredients in the form that they are put in the foods. Natura uses ONLY whole fresh, human grade foods. And because they are not like companies like Iams who spend a fortune on advertising, they foods actually cost the same price!!!So, if you are serious about feeding "the best quality food possible" then you need to seriously realize that the big name, mass market companies all use low grade products in their foods to cut costs. Innova Cat Food is the absolute best for your cat. You can find a store near you the sells it by going to their website (www. naturapet. com). They have some excellent resources on the site as well. You can compare different brands of foods, find out what is meant by all those ingredients and read testimonies from other users. If you cannot find Innova near you here are a few brands that are similar in quality: Wellness, Merrick, Eagle Pack Holistic, Fromm, and Felidae.* Oh and Innova only has one flavour of food but I think you will find that it is such a good quality that you cat will love it! Good luck and just use common sense. If you want a healthy cat, feed them something that sounds good enough for you to eat!!

Brooke

Purina cat chow

Britteny

I get the value pack of the fancy feast. Also, i leave hard food out for him.

Sean

IAMS cat food is the best. Its a little more expensive, but youre cat will love it. Pick it up at your local pet store.

Madeline

Cats are funny.. My cat today loves fancy feast with flaked chicken.. He loves it for a week or two and then he does not like it anymore and so I have to get him 9 lives with bacon and chicken.. He loves that for a week or so and then does not like it anymore. The best food(in a can, that is) is probably fancy feast or SHEEBA

Abbey

We use science diet. We have a cat with diabetes and it works WONDERFUL for him! There are several varieties and we came to it because our vet recommended it. He said its one fo the healthiest, if not the healthiest out there. It doesnt have a variety of flavors like fancy feast though.

Lakendra

Science Diet or IAMS is probably your best option.

Andres

I believe its called Purina...

Cathie

Always check the first ingredient on the package. if the first ingredient in any sort of "by product mean, corn scartch yadda yadda yadda" dont by it. you cat will actually go to the bathroom more and it is painfull for them to digest food like that wich causes more frequent "pooping" I use Iams and my cats are happy I have 4 :) webster, Sampson, Mona, Gus Gus

Flora

My vet told me that science diet for cats had the most nutrition of any cat food so that is what i would use

Fleta

There are three great food i know of:pro plan(my own cat and foster cats eat that)royal canin and science diet. i highly recommend pro plan it is a high quality food. however take into consideration your cat weight, if he is somewhat over weight both royal canin and science diet have special medical diet food which is great. if his weight is fine pro plan has a great variety of tastes and its a great good. do not buy imas or eukanuba they do horrible unneeded experiment on animals.

Rochell

Iams cat food is what I feed mine!

Bethel

We used Iams with our cat and be sure to get one that helps control fur-balls. We used that and she hardly ever coughed up a fur-ball. We had to put her down this last week...she was over 17 yrs old. had her since she was 9 weeks old. She lived a good and happy life.

Nilda

Purina one or science diet

Marline

The best quality cat food would be found at your veterinarian clinic. They can recommend which one would be best for your cat. This is true because i have worked at one and know the amount of research that is put into these foods from each of the different manufacturers. Some of the brands are purina, iams and royal canin and medical. You may not have heard of them because they spend all their money on research. The reason you have heard of fancy feast and whiskers and such is because those companies spend their money on advertising instead of the research. So its your call, Good Luck!!

Abby

I get the meow mix, I have four cats, and they all love it, havent been bored with it. The vet recommends it.

Tayna

My cat was the same. Loved the fancy feast, needed variety. He got sick though and cant tolerate fancy feast anymore (gastro-inflammation problems). Now hes on Science diet sensitive stomach dry and Hills prescription W/d dry and wet. He eats the W/d wet every day even though there are only two flavors. Hes adapted and I suspect your kitty could too. But I understand wanting to make sure he doesnt go off his food. Since your cats not sick, you are in luck and just need to find a better quality food. Look into Nutro Max cat food. Supposedly it has less crap in it than the fancy feast type stuff.

Lena

Purina is the best

Arcelia

Merrick 5 star gourmet entree even i think it looks good to eat, it has veggies, lobster, tuna, salmon all sorts of stuff in it and my cat adores it. it completely natural no weird preservatives or fake stuff in it. its about 1.75 for a can but she loves it. and it has a ton of different flavours. and mixes

Heriberto

We use Science Diet with our kitty and she loves it...theres also a brand weve used previously that is sold exclusively through Petsmart (NutroMax). Or at least thats the only place I have seen it...the NutroMax does not contain any chicken by-products or corn. Though both can be pretty pricey (btwn $7.00-9.00 per 3 -4lbs bag) we feel that its definitely worth it. You may also want to check out the Petsmart website...I believe they have a "Smart Nutrition Selector" that can help you in deciding what type of food would be best for your pet. Perhaps you can feed your cat Fancy Feast on special occasions! Hope this helps!

Camilla

My cat is old and has a very sensitive tummy I was feeding him Iams but now I make my own cat food I cook chicken and rice and put it in a blender or tuna in water with rice you can so beef and it has been good for him so far

Coralie

DO NOT feed your cat Iams whatever you do! checkout this site to see why..... http://www. iamscruelty. com/Some high quality foods I can recommend are Nutro Natural Choice you can check outhier food here..... http://www. nutroproducts. com/completecar…Newmans own organic pet foods...http://www. newmansownorganics. com/pet/pr…Natural Balance..... http://www. naturalbalanceinc. com/catform…Royal Canin.... http://www. royalcanin. com/produits/gb_ch…Solid Gold..... http://www. solidgoldhealth. com/products/…Nutrience.... http://www. nutrience. com/english-eu/cat/…Performatrin Ultra (this is only carried by Pet Valu and is made by them) and is my personal favorite and possibly the best quality food on this list at a reasonable price too. http://www. performatrinultra. com/cat/cat…The foods above are all much better brands compared to....Science diet, eukanuba, iams, techni-cal, and all the relatively crappy grocery store brands. However I must note that Purina One and Purina Pro Plan are not bad at all compared to stuff like fancy feast, cat chow, friskies, whiskas and all the other cheap corn based food. you can check purina foods here.... http://www. proplan. com/cat_products/prod…http://www. purinaone. com/products_main_c…

How many cans of hillshire farm dinner cat food do i need to feed my cat without begging for more?

Bettye

I have a cat (I dont know what breed she is). We always feed her half a can of the cat food mentioned above. Almost everytime, it seems that she isnt getting enough of how much she should eat, and occasionally, she wants more. What should I do?!?!?!

Denny

Providing shes not pregnant, (in which case shell need lots more food) shes probably only looking for more because she particularly likes it. A couple of bowls of meat a day is about right, though you could maybe make a can last 3 days if you give her other foods as well. Cats love tinned sardines - maybe you could substitute one meal every 3 days with fish? Also raw chicken wings are great - they even help keep their teeth clean too. At the same time, you should keep a bowl of cat biscuits for her to munch on whenever she wants to have them. If she starts to get fat, cut down her food a little, but try to keep some variety.

Is there a human equivalent to dog food or cat food?

Lia

I think its really cool that a dog or a cat can just live on one type of food all its life. And its healthy for them and everything. They dont really have to worry about eating badly or healthy because Im pretty sure they dont make animal food that isnt healthy and good for them. And I was just wondering if there was like a human kibble food like they feed animals. Not that Id wanna eat it or anything, just basically wondering if it exists. Haha. Does anyone know?

Alesha

Biscuits.

Jenny

Yes

Dion

Yes, its called a TPN, total parenteral nutrition. Its given to people in comas etc. It is usually custom made for that person and is a mixture of fats, amino acids, and glucose. These provide to provide energy for respiration, body function and minimise muscle wastage. Often additional vitamins and electrolytes are added to the TPN before it is administered to the patient.

Dorotha

Lets see. How about a can of tuna in the morning, followed with a small bowl of milk. For lunch, munch on some large chicken leg bones and plenty of cold water. For supper. a soft boiled egg topped with low fat cheese. For the nighttime snack, you might try catching a mouse. Very healthy and low in calories. Happy eating!

Casandra

Hmmmm....maybe a nutritional drink like Ensure...? Though I dont know how complete it is or how many youd have to drink to get all your nutrients...and the fiber content is pretty low. Interesting question.

Sherrill

Have a look in your local pharmacy or some grocery stores for " meal replacements" You can get bars and shakes that you could, theoretically, live on. Now sit and stay until I come back with more info.
