What brand of cat food do you feed your cat? do you use dry or wet?

Eden

I have 3 cats and I want to feed them the best cat food possible so that they will stay healthy and live a long life. Any ideas as to what is the best brand I should feed my cats. Thank-you for your suggestions.

When looking at buying food, buy food with no by-products in it and with little or no grains in it. Feed a bit of dry and a bit of wet, following the directions on the labels. If you feed a high-quality diet found in pet stores, it is supposed to keep the urine at a good pH level, so kitty wont get crystals. Dont buy grocery store cat food, it is filled with by-products and grain fillers. Innova EVO is supposed to be really good. Nutros Natural Choice is supposed to be better than supermarket brands because it has no by-products, but it contains corn, so its not the best you can buy. I have done so much research on this subject since adopting my cat in August. It is so confusing. Some say an only canned food diet is bad for teeth, some say dry food will help with their teeth, others say it wont. Others say an only canned diet is best. So confusing, so I feed a bit of both. Ive read that vets have little or no training in cat nutrition, and what they do learn is sponsered by food providers that use by-products and cheap grain fillers.

I have a male cat that is sick with urianary crystals, very painful to pee, the vet told me to give him soft food, but he wont eat it, and I was worried about him gaining weight, so I bought Puriana one urinary tract health and water it down so he gets a lot of water in his diet. If I knew then what I know now, I would have started that a lot earlier instead of waiting until hes sick. Good Luck.

I have two cats, one is a lazy indoor cat and the other is a roamer. I feed the indoor cat Pro Plan indoor, it helps her not be quite so chubby. I feed my roamer Pro Plan adult mixed with Pro Plan kitten to keep some weight on him. He is so skinny and in the winter I want him to have some meat on him to help keep him warm. Happy hunting!!

Kara

I currently have 1 cat and she is 5 years old and has food allergies so I feed her a combination of dry and moist food. She eats the new Purina cat food that is all natural ingredients, her can food is by newmans. She also gets a supplement of regular baby food in the jars and she is a very healthy cat that only goes to the vet for her vaccines and rabies shot.

I have two indoor cats. I also work at a vet clinic and I can tell you that Iams, Eukanuba, and Science Diet are the three best foods out there. Dry is always preferable to wet if your cat will eat it, dry food helps to reduce tartar build up on the teeth, which can cause lots of disease. Wet food helps contribute to the tartar build-up.

I have a relatively large American Short-hair whom I feed Iams Hairball Care on a regular basis. He probably doesnt exercise as much as he should and he is still fit and trim. Sure, the Iams may cost a little bit more but it seems worth it, especially the Hairball Care aspect of it. Ive had my little lovable ball of fuzz for almost two years now and havent had to clean up a single hairball. I plan on switching him to the Iams Urinary Tract Health formula when he turns 4 years old and is at greater risk for developing urinary tract crystals. Other than that he gets nothing else. Wet food is good for a cat as a treat but dont give them wet food constantly as it is bad for their teeth (and gives them NASTY cat-breath). The hard food helps keep their teeth more free from plaque and nasty things than anything else. So, yeah, I like to feed my cat Iams. And, on a side not, Iams is what all 3 of the vets I have encountered in the past 10 years have recommended feeding my animals. May be something to that...

I have a sanctuary.....30 cats all ages....I found that wellness wet and dry seems to satisfy most appetites. Plus the better the food the fewer problems down the line.

I have two cats and I feed them Meow Mix Indoor Formula and they love it! And for a treat I feed them soft cat food!

We have two cats, we feed moist in the morning, one can, we switch between 9-lives and whiskas, but we never feed, tuna or fish. They have dry food all day, we switch between, a good indoor cat formula and Purina one, they are both senior and I have never had any problems with either of them, they go the vet once a year for the old once over and have always been healthy, with the exception on a few tape worm infections, which is from fleas,

Barbie

I feed mine Iams Weight and Hairball formula, dry. And I also give him one ounce (thats not a typo, one ounce) of wet Iams food in the pouches. He really likes his wet food, but he is such a tubby. So I split one pouch over three days. He dosent seem to mind and it gets him to stop meowing at me!

I feed my cat a raw meat diet that I make (with a supplement powder). That is the optimum diet for cats. You can go to www. catinfo. org to read about it. There are also good articles on cat nutrition at www. ThePetCenter. com. I also use some canned and dry foods. Natural Balance is an excellent food both canned and dry and I have been finding that at our local pet discount store. They have several varieties of canned and dry, with different protein sources like duck and venison. It is not good for your cats to have only chicken or one particular food for their entire lives as they can develop allergies over a long period of time. The important factor in choosing a healthy cat food, either canned or dry is that the protein be of high quality. Science Diet, Purina and all the other grocery store foods use by-product meat in their formulations. This is the meat that is deemed unfit for human consumption (heads, feet, entrails, feathers etc.) This protein is then "rendered" with chemicals and cannot for used in human food. Wellness, Eagle Pack, Natures Variety, Solid Gold, CA Natural, Natures Logic and Natures Organic are all top-quality foods. The companies that make them are in the pet food market only, the makers of Purina, Science Diet, Meow Mix and Iams are producers of human food products and they have found that using the "waste" from their human foods to be very profitable in making food for pets.

My cat is perfectly healthy, with a shiny coat and all - and he gets Costco dry cat food - cheap and good for him!
