Which brands of canned cat food would you recommend more a moderate budget?

Were getting a 6 week old male cat at the end of this month. Im not going to be be shopping at supermarkets or online for the food, but something in the middle, that I could get at my local pet store is what Im looking for.

Stay away from foods that contain cheap fillers. This would include by-products and wheat gluten. By-products arent meat - they are scrap "parts" that have been deemed unfit for human consumption, and include such tasty things as beaks, hides, tendons, intestines, spinal chords, spleens - you get the idea. Wheat gluten artificially elevates the protein content of the food. Some decent brands of food that contain no by products include Nutro (watch as some flavors contain glutens), Petsmarts own Authority brand. Also good but a bit harder to find (not in the big chain pet stores) would be Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. All the big chains carry Nutro. Better still would be Wellness (now at Petco) but that is more expensive than the others Ive mentioned here. Read the ingredients on the labels, and youll find something that both suits your budget and will be healthy for your kitten.

Many people would disagree but I buy Fancy Feast for my cat. I only buy turkey ( she prefers this) chicken or beef. I stay away from organ meats as they are too rich. No gravy, not shredded, and no fish. Just the plain cat food.

I used sophista cat. they sell it at petsmart. I think you might have one of those near you. I now use Nine Lives. With the Sophista cat you get a cheaper deal when you buy the case... I was noticing buying the case... he gets really bad runs with the Mixed Grill can... the rest are fine... but that means i will have 4 cans of something he cant eat. You dont need to get kitten food... the CAT food is fine. In the *wild* there is no Kitten Formula birds or mouses, so there is no need to worry about kitten food that has the KITTEN label on it. You can also get 9lives and whiskas at petsmart. It is pretty reasonably priced. check out the ingredients... they compare almost evenly! I am feeding him Felindae so him eating 9lives i think is a working mix. he seems to be doing well with it. I could let you know in a week!

I prefer to use whiskas with my cat i used it when she was a kitten to its great for her! I like the tinned food and the biscuits but the tin food stinks lol :) the biscuits are quite healthy for a cat/kittens teeth

Marcus

You should get Fancy Feast" and a little Iams kitty food original. And then mix them together so they grow strong teeth.= )

I believe that Pro plan is a good food but a bit higher than a moderate level. Friskies and Whiskas are good well known and moderate cost foods

I say fancy feast. Thats all i have ever given my cats and they live a long healthy life. Theirs no cereal in it and you only have to give half a can and their satisfied. chicken, turkey or fish. my cat is 16 and going strong. my last cat that passed away was 21.

Supermarkets, depending on where you live, probably have many of the same foods as pet stores, but cheaper. If you are in the United States, look for the AAFCO seal on the can, as it indicated it is a complete food for your cat. I tend to stick with brand names, and look at the ingredients. At best, meat should be the first ingredient after water for canned food. If it is listed third or fourth, it is of lesser value. However, start your kitten with the same food he is eating when you get him, as he will be around 9 weeks or so and eating solid kitten chow. If you plan on changing foods, do it gradually over a week to ten days, to avoid tummy upsets. And if he wont eat it, then you have to stick with what he will eat. Cats will starve themselves rather than eat something they dont like.

Please read the nutrition article at www. maxshouse. com. Theres some tricky tech stuff you can skim, but it explains why cats must have wet, animal protein based food. Kittens need more protein than adult cats, just as human babies need a different nutritional balance than their parents. Consult with your vet about nutrition and ask questions. There is a growing body of evidence that dry kibble contributes to obesity and diabetes due to its high carb content. It is also hard to tell when kibble has become stale - unless your cat flat out refuses to go near it. Kittens are fed more often than adults. Over time your cat will have only 2 meals a day, where your kitten may have four. Always read the ingredients, even if youve bought the brand before. Pet food companies alter their formulas, but may not advertise it on the can. Stay away from wheat gluten entirely since so much comes from overseas and its not animal based. Also avoid corn. Think about what a feral cat eats, that is, small rodents. Blood, guts, muscle, bone, most of it is eaten by a hungry cat. In fact, a feral cat gets most of its moisture requirements from the fluid in its kills. Im certain you will be able to find some healthy choices out there in your budget. Stay away from fish formulas as they can cause kidney problems down the road. Our shelter wont even accept them as donations and you know how much shelters depend on donations. Avoid plant protein, and ALWAYS read the label. Hope you have a long healthy relationship with the little fellow.

My cats have always done well on Science Diet, and thats what my vet recommended me. The prefer the turkey or the chicken to the other flavors, but wont even touch the beef. I dont usually give them the ones with fish, though, because theyre supposed to be fattening.

I Recommend to use Agrituras Healthy Cat Food. Agrituras Healthy Cat Food is formulated to address the specific nutritional requirements of cats. Although cats are obligate carnivores, most commercial cat food contains both animal and plant material, supplemented with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. An important nutrient is the amino acid derivative taurine, as cats cannot synthesize the compound. For more Details Check it here----------http://www. agritura. com/index. php/cat/c2…
