What is a good cat food high in protein?

Cesar

My cat needs a high protein food to help with diarrhea, any suggestions? Some one told me to start feeding her canned pumpkin? Would that be good to just mix in with a dry food?

Some other high protein foods nobody mentioned yet are Wellness CORE, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, and Orijen.

No no. Feed EVO, Natures Variety Instincts and Before Grain canned. These are the highest protein food youre going to get. You need to go to a special pet food store for them. Cant just get them at like the petsmart. If you do go to petsmart or petco, try looking for AVO derm or Nutro. Theres also an organic one there thats really good. There in green cans. Ive used them in a pinch. Ive ran out of food before and had to go to the only place that were open and I used that.

Yes, canned pumpkin (not the pie mix) or some plain yogurt with the pro-biotics (might need to go to the natural section of the grocery for that) will help regulate things. EVO dried has 50% protein. Natures Variety Instinct grain-free dried has 50% protein as well. Taste of the Wild has 42%. I wouldnt recommend Nutro. While it does have 40% a lot of it comes from corn and rice, not the best sources for a cat..Canned you have to do the math. You divide the protein percent by whats left after the moisture. So if theres 78% moisture in the can of food and 12% protein, you take 12 divided by (100-78), or 12/22. Thats a good example at 55%. When you see 9% protein and 78% moisture, thats only 41%, which is on the lower side for a can of food.. 78% is pretty common for moisture so as long as you have that, look for 10-12% protein.
