Choosing the Best Cat Carrier

When you need to travel and you can't leave your cat at home, you need to have a cat carrier. Carriers come in the form of crates or kennels. They are simply containers that are made from different materials and come in different sizes.

You can be able to carry your cat comfortably even during long travels in public transportation. Planes and other transport facilities might require you to have your cat checked-in in a cat carrier. This means that you have no other choice but to keep them in one.

To be able to get the most benefit of the use of such carriers, as a cat owner, you need to take note of a few things.

Having a carrier that is of the right size is important. When buying one, consider how big or small your cat is. You can consult the salesperson for recommendations based on your cat's size. Consider buying those that your cat can fit well in. The width and the height of the kennel should be comfortable enough for your cat to sleep or move in. Your cat should be able to stand and walk a little inside it without having to bend its body. But, do not buy one that is too big. You will only suffer having to carry such a bulky container.

When travelling by air with your cat, it is wise to consult the airline that you are flying with to determine their regulations for cat carriers. There can be those which require that the kennels are durable and made from hard materials. With this type of carriers, there may be a hard surface where your cat can rest on and there is a small opening or window on at least one side.

For soft cat carriers, they may be more comfortable but they are not as durable. They are flexible and are lighter to carry. Make sure that you are allowed to use of soft cat carriers before the day you have to travel. If you will not be allowed, at least you will have the time to change to a hard one.

Another material that a cat carrier can be possibly made from is cardboard. Usually, these are convenient for carrying small cats across small distances for a short period of time. This variety is the lightest and they can be carried very easily.

Of course, aside from the type of cat carrier, there may be some cat owners who are particular with the design. The variety that can give you the most choices for designs are the soft carriers. The hard carriers regularly come in neutral colors. Cardboard carriers rarely come in colors. So, your best bet will be soft carriers as the materials that they are made from will of several varieties.

Lastly, you need to consider the price. Hard carriers are generally pricey but they are the most durable. Soft carriers may be cheap but there are also some which may cost you. And if you are on a tight budget, cardboard carriers will be the least expensive of the three.
