What is the best type of wet and dry cat food?

Apryl

I am making of birthday cake for my baby kitten Sweetheart. I was just wondering what is the absoulute BEST type of wet and dry cat food?

Hi. The best brands of cat food are listed here;- AvoDerm - By Nature - California Natural - Canine Caviar for Cats - Eagle Pack - Evo ( the high end of Innova )- Felidae ( from the Canidae company )- Innova - Merrick - Natural Balance - Natures Logic - Natures Variety Prairie - Newmans Own - PetGuard - Solid Gold - Timberwolf Organics - Wellness - Wellness CORE - Wysong______________________________________…The low quality of cat food brands are as listed here;- Whiskas - 9-Lives - Happy Tails - Friskies - Trader Joes - Pro Plan - Cat Chow - Iams - Science - Fancy Feast - Meow Mix - Noname Brands - (any Walmart/supermarket/grocery store brands are bad)- Ally Cat______________________________________…These are the ingredients to avoid and why;- BHA and BHTThese two preservatives have been considered toxic for decades, and were once in snak foods for humans, too. They are chemical antioxidants that keep the fatty contents of pet food from turning rancid. These chemicals have linked to birth defects and liver and kidney damage. If a cat ingests them at every single meal, it has taken its tole. The value of BHA and BHT to pet food makers, who still routinely use them, is that once they are doused on kibble, the stuff can stay "fresh" for vast amounts of time.- EthoxyquinThis is another antioxidant preservative that was once added to most pet foods to keep them from going bad. It is now proven to be toxic to animals (REALLy toxic-it is know to cause blindness, leukemia and cancer of the stomach, skin, spleen and liver in companion animals) . It took a while, but finally many of the pet food compainies bowed to consumer pressure and removed it from the foods, which now bear the proud claim "No added ethoxyquin". I have much more to say about this but I dont have the time, so I think you get the point that this is very horrible!- Flavoring AgentsArtificail flavoring agents are also added to many commercial pet foods, and although they are tasty to cats, they are unhealthy for them-and actually toxic in large quantities. Flavored pet foods also cantain preservatives and added dyes that turn the naturally grim, gray colourof dry food into a bizarrely unnatural red colour; but some marketing genius muct have decided this is what people find good when they go and but cat food.- Grain/cornHORRIBLE, USELESS!! These are good ingredients to find in cat food;High proteinlots of meatand I think you get the pointHere is the first ingredent in Fancy Feast wet food vs. Wellness CORE;Fancy Feast; Meat By-productsWellness CORE; Deboned Chicken or turkey depending on flavour. Happy Birthday to your kitten and I really hoped I helped!!!Good Luck! <3

Hi, again. if its just for the cake then its personal preference from your kitten. The best type of food for cats i would say is Royal CaninSite for Royal Canin;http://www. royalcanin. co. uk/my_pet/cat_p…they do lots of ranges, biscuits and wet for whatever you kitten likes, but you might want to check because no matter how expensive or nice it looks, the cat is not guaranteed to liking it. Also you might be better with your usual food and adding some chicken or whatever her favourite treat is. changing their food can upset their stomach or digestive system best not to give her an upset stomach on her birthday.. good luckJess.

The BEST type of commercial food would probably be Wellness CORE, but the higher end cat food brands are so close in nutritional value and quality that its hard to decide which is 100% best (Blue Buffalo, Merricks, Innova, EVO, etc). The BEST type of food *period* to feed a cat is a raw diet. I personally dont have time for the prep needed, but its the best possible meal to feed your cat. Now you are wanting to make a cake, but pardon me for being the voice of reason, if you use a cat food your cat is not used to, its just going to give him diarrhea. Instead, why not get him a new cat tree, or some toys, or some raw meat sliced up for dinner instead!! You will still get to do something special for your cat, and he will enjoy an out of the ordinary and healthy treat!!

I go to a natural pet store to get foods with natural ingredients. I heard that all of the other mainstream cat foods have byproducts in them (including Iams Science Diet), which are horrible for animals.

Pet food is a very debated and opinionated topic. You will get a lot of different answers. This is what Ive learnt... avoid the grocery store brands. If you absolutely must buy from the grocery store though, buy Iams. Iams is the best of the worst so to speak. What you want to look for is a low ash content in the food. About 2% or less. Most regular cat foods contain about 7-8% ash which is very bad. A diet with high ash will cause urinary infections and problems. That being said, the only brand Ive come across that has less then 2% ash is Royal Canain. Yes, it is expensive but to me its worth it. I feed both my cats Royal Canin. Wet food isnt a huge of an issue. If you find some wet food your kitty really likes then great! But it is good to feed your pets wet food from time to time because 1. Its good for their gums and 2. It allows them to consume more water, which we all know is good for any species. But drinking more water can prevent urinary crystal blockages. I hope this helped! Happy birthday to your kitty! :)

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s healthContrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things? http://www. catinfo. org/#Learn_How_To_Rea…http://iml. jou. ufl. edu/projects/Spring04…Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u. t.i’s and a host of other problems. Male cats are especially prone to blockagesfrom dry food. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. ( Have a fat cat?)Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and dont use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. http://www. catinfo. org/#My_Cat_is_Doing_…You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesnt have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. THE BEST CAT FOODS CONTAIN NO GRAINS NO BYPRODUCTS Cats are meat eaters not cereal or rice eaters Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www. felinefuture. com/nutrition/bp… Please read about cat nutrition. http://www. catinfo. org/ http://www. catinfo. org/feline_obesity. ht… http://maxshouse. com/feline_nutrition. ht… Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza. http://iml. jou. ufl. edu/projects/Spring04…
