What should i do about my cat not finishing her food? should i give her something different?

Arthur

My cat is 5 months now and at first, she would finish her food for everytime I fed her. I know since she is getting older, I would have to feed her more. However, for the last two weeks, she wouldnt even finish her food. Perhaps thats a sign to give her something different but if it is, whats the best brand for cat foods? Ive been feeding her Whiskas, Friskies (canned foods) and Purina (dry foods) since I got her.

First, be grateful that your cat does not show a tendency to overeat. Id just leave her a good quality dry food free choice. It sounds like youre one of the lucky individuals that isnt going to have to worry about dealing with the health problems that go along with a too fat pet. Please dont think that its a good idea to encourage her to eat more than she needs--that will cause problems on down the line. If shes at a healthy lean weight and showing normal growth she doesnt need to eat any more than she wants to.

Cats are nibblers. They eat a little bit now, then come back for more later. Were you feeding her canned food at first then went to dry? Could be she got a little spoiled by eating canned.

Celia

Cats eat until they are full, they do not judge on bowl size. I would not worry unless your cat has lost weight. It is probably just full, they do not eat until the food is gone as some dogs do. If you really want the best..... Science diet or Iams best affordable Purina

Gwyn

Umm if she isnt under weight what the heck are you worrying about!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Angelyn

Cats like to nibble throughout the day. Leave the food for her to finish, just measure out the amount she should have each day and stick with that. Shell eat a little here and a little there.

Cristi

Your probably just feeding her too much at once. As long as she is at a good weight I wouldnt be conserned. But to be on the safe side ask your vet about what the best diet option is for your cat. Just like with dogs there are a lot of breeds of cats and every breed is different. Hope this helps.

Firsty at 5 months she should only get canned once or twice a day - no more than 1 teaspoon of canned - yes the cans tell you to feed ALOT more but this is only to increase their sales...( after 6 months 1 x a day or none is ok unless she is really thin)BOTH foods are LOW QUALITY - loaded with filler and contraining little nutrition (corn?? what are they doing putting CORN into a cat food?? cats are true carnivours)by-products are beaks feet and feathers and are a cheap filler...it could be sore teeth (teething)cats are grazers - they nibble throughout the day

Ettie

Just let her get use to one food. she will eat if she is hungry

Gretchen

Your cats becoming an adult and not a kitten anymore so it wont be as energetic or growing as much so it wont need as much food anymore, I just give my cats some wet food at night and in the morning and leave out dry food all day so they can get food when theyre hungry just give it less food
