How do you get a cat to eat cat food when they will only eat people food?

My cat would rather starve himself to death than eat cat food. He has lost about 3 pounds over the past week and a half since he stopped eating cat food. I took him to the vet and they say nothing is wrong with him. Is there any great tasting cat food that I could try to get my cat to eat?

Quite frankly, if he gets hungry enough, hell eat. Hes spoiled. Quit feeding him people food. Period. Leave out some dry cat food for him. When he gets hungry hell eat it. He may try to resist for a few days, or even a week. But hell give in.

I know that cats are different than dogs, but when my dog would not eat anything but people food when we got him; I wanted to start giving him dog food, so I would mix a little bit of scraps with the dog food and he would scarf it down. After a couple of weeks, I stopped giving him scraps mixed in and he was just eating the dog food alone. The transition takes a while, but it should work.

Is your vet carzy! There may not be anything wrong with your cat now. Cats should not eat people food because our food has different types of substances in it. Your cat needs to eat cat food to keep up its health. But you can make home made cat food for your cat. You can go online and find different type of food to make for your cat. It seem if it is made by you your cat will eat it. Some cats are picky like this and I think he would eat home made food. You just need to do a little research.

Your cat is playing you like a fool...it wont starve to death, itll eat when it knows you arent giving in. Try different brands of foods, maybe your cat just hates the kinds youve been buying. My cat has a sensitive stomach and I found out Science Diet is crap, Nutro is a much better brand, both of my pets have improved from the switch, but if your cat will eat cheaper brands and can handle it then do that before investing in the high-quality stuff.

I agree he is spoiled. Dont give him anymore people food and when he gets hungry enough he will eat it. There is nothing wrong with him, hell put that weight back on soon. I feed my kittens Purina One. It has real chicken as the first ingredient. You should look for catfoods with real meat as the first ingredient. Not that meat by-product. The real thing in catfood is better for them.

Cat wants real foodNaturally, cats would eat natural food, not processed foods. In nature they would even eat raw food, but that would cleanse a cat-food cat too fast. Your cat may instinctively know whats best right now. If I were you, I would follow the cat. A friend of mine gave cats vegetarian food. She gave them people food and whatever raw food the cats liked. She would put some fish oil on the food, the cats loved it, had shiny fur, and did very well. Our cat at home was almost vegetarian, since my family did not eat much meat, poultry or fish. Our cat was big and strong, the village cat king, and loved oat meal, cream of wheat, milk, eggs and vegetables. Sometimes he got fish or meat left overs. He only got people food. I would give the cat a bit of wild rice with some fish oil every day, some fresh greens. Also yams and potatoes with peel. See if the cat likes yeast on food (should be made moist to prevent sneezing from the powder), good for Vitamin Bs; lecithin, for nerves. Cat nip? Try mixing different kinds of the wet meaty cat food with dry food if she eats it slowly add less and less of it until she is just eating dry food
