How are cat treats different than dry cat food?

Deandre

What would make them different? Same size, same flavors (Chicken Delight, Ocean Fish, Whisker-Lickin Tuna), same texture...My cat acts like its Christmas when I open the Feline Greenies bag, though. Does he just *think* its something better because he gets it less frequently than the cat food, which is available regularly? Or is it really different?

Cassey

Theyre usually a lot higher in fat, which cats find irresistible.

Albertha

I think treats are more based on flavor than nutrition. Cat food is just...vitamin mush :P

Genna

Like the other two said theyre not exactly healthy. Some cats treats come with tartar control and veggies, but theyre still just treats. Thats like feeding your kid cupcakes and Mcdonalds everyday and calling it food. Cats like humans need a healthy balance of food otherwise they will develop health issues in the future and become overweight.

Donette

Im not exactly sure what the difference is. We always got pounce. It was softer than dry cat food. Maybe its flavor is a little more richer? My cats went crazy for it.

Carole

One guess is that it tastes better

Elly

I think this might be a good comparison:There are real strawberries and strawberry flavored candy. One is real food and one is delicious, bad-for-you candy! Both are good... but most kids probably prefer the candy.

Doug

The same thing is with my cat. I learned that it tasted better for the cats/kittens. My cat was in a place called catnap and he was a cat that was found on the streets and they took care of him. They always fed him that. When we got him and we didnt give him that he was a little wierd but got better. When i rarely give him that he goes crazy and licks it all gone. It is sorta bad for him cause that makes his teeth rot and the other stuff doesnt thats why i rarely give him that.

Caleb

Perhaps its a little of both. If you look at the ingredients of something like Pounce treats, youll find that its not all that different from many dry foods. Its just got even more bad stuff, so of course cats love it. Who doesnt love sugary goodness? But I think they also know that its a special treat.
