Whats a good cat food substitute for temptations?

Adrianna

I have taken in a friends cat and he is hooked on Whiskas Temptations Cat Treats (any flavor). I dont want to feed him these treats as his regular food but Ive tried regular dry cat food and he wont touch it. Is there a reasonably priced healthy dry cat food out there that is comparable to Temptations? Thanks in advance.

Id suggest you try Nutro MAXCATIt is all human grade, made from real chicken, not by products, doesnt have ground yellow corn, whcih is an allergy trigger, as well as hard to digestIt is 100% guaranteed to improve skin and coat, reduce shedding and hairballs, reduce litterbox odor--AND 100% guaranteed for great taste--meaning if the kitty doesnt like it, you can bring it back to the store for full refund-no questions asked, no forms to fill out or send in!

Yuck, no! The cat will eventually eat. No cat will starve itself when food is available. Hell eat when hes hungry. Dont allow him any people food or treats. Just went through this with a rescue. Picked her up and the people who had her (theyd had her for a week, the people they got her from had her for a week, no one knows her history prior) offered me her food; a box of no name cat food and a bag of her favourite chips. I politely declined. The cat had no idea what quality cat food was and she was ENORMOUSLY fat. She could barely walk and didnt even fit into the carrier I brought that my neighbour uses for his Shih Tzu. I had to stuff her in. Shed been living in small apartments being fed junk. Weve had her 5 weeks now. Shes still quite fat but she can run now and does regularly. Shes become very playful. She has 2,000 sft of house to run around in and our other cat to play with, they love to chase each other all over the house. She also gets to go outside into our secured back yard in the evening when were home from work. She doesnt leave the stairs yet, but eventually shell get the idea she can play in the whole yard but Im pretty sure shes never been exposed to fresh air and so much space. She had a hard time adjusting to the change in food, every time I touched food or opened the fridge door she was panicking to get some, but not anymore. She now eats ONLY cat food, a high quality grain free food called Taste of the Wild, and gets nothing else. She doesnt even bother with the fridge anymore.

Your friend shouldnt be feeding their cat treats for a meal. That isnt healthy, like eating cake for breakfast and dinner. Get Try wet food. Mabye thatll do it. Good Luck.

Oh dear i have the exact same problem. and since shes just been spayed on thursday im just so happy to see her eating i keep giving them to her instead of proper food. however one of my friends who owns a pet store told me royal canin is the best possible stuff to give them as it has no filler just pure kitty goodness! as soon as mine is over her op shes going straight onto it

My cats...all of them devour the Fancy Feast dry. As a regular diet, we have them on Science diet Optimal Health, and often times we mix the Fancy Feast in with that, and the Fancy Feast is gone first! But the Science Diet is a better grade of food. Its ok to give him treats, but of course it shouldnt be his diet. Truly if he gets hungry enough he will eat regular food. You dont want to starve him, but a day or 2 should do it.

Feed him canned mixed with your regular dry food. A diet wholly on dry food is not healthy, nor is Whiskas temptations. DO NOT CONTINUE TO FEED THEM AS REGULAR CAT FOOD! It is harmful to your cats health and obviously does not provide enough nutrients. Seeing you asked this question on USA Yahoo Answers I would say that you live in USA? They have a whole lot more choices over there. Here are some of the GOOD premium non supermarket (but expensive) canned I would recommend:- Blue Buffalo?- Innova flex - Natura EVO (the best from my experience but EXTREMELY expensive in Australia here)I dont suggest Nutro? (Nutro guy would probably thumb me down :( ) because I have heard of kitties getting sick on it. This list of recommended supermarket canned food applies to here in Sydney:- Optimum - Fancy Feast (sorry to say this but it has better ingredients than other canned food here - except for Optimum)- UltimateS (full of fish/chicken)Hope Ive helped! :DEDIT:The only dry food here for cats are Fancy Feast, Optimum, Dine, Whiskas, Friskies, EVO (again expensive), Purina One and Purina Supercoat. Out of the reasonably priced (and healthiest) one is Optimum. Evo is too expensive ($30.00AUD/ 1 kg bag!) to be in my selections.
