Should i buy the 16 lb cat food if i have only 1 cat?

Alta

Dry cat foods are cheaper in large quantity, as with everything else. But should I buy the huge bags if I have only 1 cat? Would the food goes bad if it is opened and not consumed w. a certain time?

Kathlyn

AHHH! SOOO many bad answers!!It is perfectly fine to buy in large quantities. I have four cats and MUST do this. Just get some type of air tight container. I simply went to the Dollar General and bought one. You dont want it to get stale because they cat isnt going to eat it. Would you eat stale potato chips?!Your cat should be eating dry food only. Wet food causes dental disease. Your cat should be on ONE type of food because switching food causes diarrhea. Feel free to email me for further explanation.

You can but make sure to keep it in an air tight container. Keep it in a cool, dry place as well. Or portion it into smaller ziploc bags to ensure freshness.

The problem you run into is the cat gets sick of the same flavor all the time, ans as you know cats are finicky about food sometime. So it might not be the best idea, unless your cat never gets tired of the flavor you give it, which is rare

I would buy a smaller bag for one cat, the food will get stale and the cat may not want to eat it. also the longer the food is around the better chances it will mold, which is not healthy. i have 3 cats and i buy a 7# bag of food every 2 to 3 weeks.

Annice

I used to buy huge bags of cat food. just keep the bag sealed so that you dont get bugs in it. i had to stop buying it because my kitty decided she only wanted to eat out of the bag.

Milagros

Buy the smaller bags, you dont like eating stale food and neither does your cat. Its not that much cheaper anyways.

You should not buy any dry foods. Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s healthContrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or is it meal or other things? http://www. catinfo. org/#Learn_How_To_Rea…Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u. t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptomsThe problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but inDry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and dont use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesnt have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. The optimum food to feed cats has no grains whatsoever, cats have no use for them and many have trouble processing them as well as the carbs. IBD is another disease that is rapidly becoming common amoung cats because of the inappropriate diets being fed. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www. felinefuture. com/nutrition/bp…Please read about cat nutrition. http://www. newdestiny. us/nutritionbasics…http://www. catinfo. org/feline_obesity. ht…http://maxshouse. com/feline_nutrition. ht…

I have a tin that potato chips came in and I use it to store my cat food in. I always buy the largest bag I can but I have many cats to feed. They do like it fresh but what you buy in the store is not guaranteed to be fresh either. It may have been in the warehouse for up to a year. Most cat food does not have a "best if used by" date on the bag. Best of luck and best to your kitty too.

Eilene

If its cheap and your cat eats it, then go for it.

Cesar

I think it would be fine for a couple of weeks. maybe a slightly smaller bag would be better.
