What is a healthy low fat name brand of cat food for an adult cat?

Cletus

I was shopping for cat food and and I was told eukkanuba is a good brand, but noticed 21 % fat content. I noticed the previous brand I was using, Whiskas, had less than15%. Is buying pet food from the pet store causing more harm than good for my cat..Anyone else counting calories for their indoor cat. I would like to know what the better diet would be. She is not overweight.

Dont sweat the fat. Both high protein and high(ish) fat are GOOD for cats. Cats are carnivores - the main thing you should worry about in their diets is carbs. Im posting in my usual links about cat nutrition. Included among them is a list of the very best canned foods. I highly recommend switching your cat over.

Science plan!!! you can get it from your vet.

Iams or science diet

Whiskas and other brands from the supermarket are mainly cereal and not the best for your cat. You cant do your cat food shopping the same as for humans. Low fat is not good for your catCats need fat in their diet to promote good healthy fur and skin, and high cereal/salt foods lead to many health problems. The best way to go is to get specific food designed for indoor cats such as Royal Canin - Indoor. It is well balanced and is low in calorie content. It is an "all in" food and you dont have to feed anything else. All the Royal Canin varieties help with furballs, teeth, digestion and the all in health.

Cats by nature do not over eat. If your into counting calories and fat content by all means by the Whiskas. I never gave it much thought, I know table scraps are not good for them. But I always thought that the dry was better for cats. Good Luck

I use Purina One, and you can get it just about anywhere. The bag I have has 13% fat content. It is cheaper than Iams and Science Diet, and still a decent quality cat food. My vet approved of the brand, so it cant be that bad! If your cat isnt overweight, then I wouldnt worry too much about counting her calories. But if it still bothers you, Purina One does make a Healthy Weight food that will help your cat stay at her current weight. I added a link so that you can check out the nutrition info for yourself, if you would like. :-)I hope that helps! (and no, I dont work for the company!) ;-)
