How can i make my maltipoo dog stop eating the cat food?

Beau

Ive taken the cat food away from her and just left the dog food, but it seems like she wont touch it she will starb herself til i give her dry cat food. Is cat food healthy for her? Or is she doing this cause she shes the cat eat her food.

Lakenya

A dog wont starve itself till death. make schedule for his feeding, same time, twice (or however times you prefer) a day. wait 20 mins, if the dog doesnt eat, pick it up and feed at the next time.

Gretta

Cat food is healthy for cats. Put the cat food out of reach and keep the dog on dog food on an eating schedule. She will not starve herself.

Katheleen

Leave the dog food there shell eat when she gets hungry enough dogs arent like people they wont starve themselves to make a stupid point.

Lynwood

Well my dog eats the cat food.. Sometimes if the dog is young its easier to chew and they like the taste better. Just let her eat it. My dog loves it and you dont have to buy two separate bags of food =)

Augustina

Umm.........tell it to stop

Caroll

It is not unusual for a dog to refuse his meals in very hot weather. Make sure he has fresh water available at all times and is able to get out of the hot sun. Dogs who exercise regularly or have naturally high energy levels will often show more interest in eating while older dogs, those who are house bound, or overweight may not show as much interest. Some dogs are ravenous eaters and will gobble up anything you put in front of them while others will sniff and walk away only to return to pick at their food. No one really knows why.

Genevieve

She is ok eating it, but if you want to keep her away place it out of her reach some where the cats can easily climb too

Alan

Put the cat food high up so the dog cant reach but the cat can reach and dont worry your dog will eat if he gets to hungry

Leatha

I keep the cats food on top of a workbench. They can reach it and my dogs cant.

Francie

Put the cats food out f reach of the dog.

Andree

No the cat food is not healthy for her. Its too rich, and if she eats a lot of it, it can give her pancreatitis. My dog was hospitalized for a couple days with pancreatitis when she tore into a bag of cat food and ate quite a bit. Put the cat food up on a desk or table. The cat can jump up there, but your dog cant. Eventually shell eat her own food again.

Maragret

DONT and I mean DO NOT let your dog eat cat food any more. Unless you would wanna pay a vet bill of about $800. My dog did the same thing and she was at the vets for about 2 weeks. Just put the food in the basement if you have one or put your dog outside when your cat wants to eat. Another thing you can do is shut the food in a room and put something in front of the door so your dog cant get in but your cat will be able to.

Allyn

Well I puts my cats food on top of the dryer so she can get it but the dog cant. But if she wont eat her dry food then try giving her moist food and if she eats it then add dry food, little bits at a time until its just dry food left or you could try feeding her once or twice a day if she is hungry she will eat it. My dog is the same way when I goes to my moms house because she gives her table scrapes so I stopped doing that and just gives her dry food and when she gets really hungry she eats. And dogs can sometimes be stubborn. Mine is, but it dont make me love her any less. As they say every dog has its days....lol.

Chaya

Stop giving her the cat food. She wont starve herself, though she may go a week without eating (and that is OK). Cat food is NOT good for dogs, you need to move it to where the dog cant reach it.

Anjanette

Lets see, this takes a brain surgeon to figure that out! Put the cat food, duh, out of the dogs reach. Im not sure what you mean by STARB? Anyway, the dog will not STARVE itself, itll eat when shes hungry. Cat food has way too much protein for a dog which will cause gastro-intestinal problems as well as diarrhea.
