Is there any difference between kitten food and adult cat food?

Adele

My kitten is 20 weeks old approx and i was just wondering what the differnece is between kitten and cat food. Is it just the texture that is different or does it have extra proteins and stuff like that like that?

Hi! Kitten food is slightly different then adult food. It contains more protein and more nutrients because the kitten is growing. Some brands also contain some antibodies. You should be feeding it kitten food until its one years old. The size of the kibble is usually a bit smaller too (also brand depending though).Just keep in mind if you have any other cats in the home that are 7 years or older they absolutely should not be eating the kitten food. Senior cats cannot process the protein as well and it can cause problems with their liver.

Kitten food has more protein and nutrients that kittens need and kitten food can also be fed to pregnant and nursing moms to give them extra nourishment for her and the babies. Adult cat food doesnt have the extra nutrients kittens need in their first year of life. They can eat it and be healthy but kitten food is best until they are a year old and even as they grow to adults kitten food is good for them. I have 2 cats and 2 kittens and only buy kitten food bc thats all any of them prefer.. i guess its the taste they like..its also ok to give your cat or kitten a little bit of milk every now and then. giving them milk everyday wont hurt them but it makes them poop more and messier.

Kittens are not just miniature cats. Kittens growth and development need extra protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals to get the right start in life. The extra protein is needed for growth and development of any kitties. I think all these combination are covered in this cat food that i am giving to my kitties since they born >>>> http://www. agritura. com/index. php/cat/c3…

The fat and protein levels are different as is the ash levels. There are debates as to whether or not this is really necessary or just a marketing thing. Id rather see you feed your kitten excellent adult cat food than mediocre kitten food anyday. Evo, Wellness, Merrick, Fromm, Origen, Go! etc.. Ask around as to what is available in your area.

Dry kitten food often has a smaller kibble size that is easier for them to eat. Most kitten foods also contain more protein than adult foods. Ultimately, age or condition specific foods are little more than a marketing gimmick. In reality, cats of all life stages need lots of protein from a meat source and they dont need grains in their diet. Theyre obligate carnivores and, as such, arent designed to digest all the junk thats in most commercial foods. I recommend that you consider switching your kitten to a high protein, low carb and grain free wet food diet. The article linked below goes into great detail explaining cat nutrition and the importance of a species appropriate diet. There is also a section on commercial foods that lists several great brands for you to choose from. Personally, I feed my cats Innova EVO and Wellness grain free wet foods, and highly recommend both. http://catinfo. org

You can keep your cat as it grows on same kitten food the rest of its life
