We recently inherited a cat and I cant keep my little dog away from the cat food. She wont even eat her dog food any more.

If they get into the cat food every once in a while, it wont be harmful... But to feed it on a daily basis is not a good idea. Most cat foods have higher amounts of protein and fat, as well as more fiber. For these reasons, it is recommended that dogs be fed strictly dog intended diets. We keep the cat food up on top of the refrigerator which is about the ONLY spot in the house our dog cant get to. To keep the dry food from getting everywhere, we have a small bath mat6 up there that keeps everything where it should be.

Cat food isnt good for dogs because the nutritions are different and can actually make the dog sick. If you have a counter you dont mind the cat being on, teach the cat to eat up there. Or if theres a laundry room or something that you can always leave the door closed, put the food in there and cut a little cat door in the door for the cat to get in. It can be pretty small, too, cats can squeeze into tiny spaces. Our laundry room door is four inches off the ground, and its just enough to allow our cat to squeeze under, but it keeps the dogs out, so thats where we stick his food

Yes - dogs and cats have different vitemin and mineral requirements. Cat food, for example, has extremely high levels of vitemin A in it compared to dog food. So, you might not notice any difference - then one day your find you have a dog with organ failure. in a lot of pain and dying a horrible death. Harsh... but point made? ;)We always fed out cat on the kitchen counter and the dogs on the floor.

Cant see as a 1 off it being harmfull but not good all the time!! not to mention the fact the cat will go hungry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont want my cat on places where i cook food so i feed her on the tumble dryer! dogs cant get it and cat doesnt go hungry! problem solved lol

My dogs eat cat food, just be sure u get them vitanim enriched treats, as the vitamins and minerals, they each need, are different. Dogs eat the cat food, cats eat the dog food, guess they each are afraid 1 is getting something better, than the other.....LOL

Its dangerous in that there are different levels of different vitamins and minerals than dog foodits kind of like a dude taking a womens vitaminonce in a while wont kill him but train him not to eat the cat fooda cat can need high levels of one vitamin, but for a dog too much of that same vitamin can be very harmful

Dog food has certain vitamins and fats for dogs that is necessary for a dogs diet. cat food is the same for cats. if they both eat each others food then they wont be getting the right keys for their life. just like if we were to eat donuts all day and not eat any veggies or meats. its just not healthy. but my grandpa fed his cat dog food all the time cause he wanted his cat to eat what she wanted... she lived for like ever. But she was a little obese.

It isnt good for the dog to eat the cat food. It wouldntbe harmful i she ate a little bit, but constantly will upset her digestive tract. Cat food has more fat and other vitamins to help the cats needs, and it can be harmful to dogs (such as the fats, too much fat). It is ok for a cat to eat dog food, as long as the cat eats his food regularly. I keep my door closed, and my kitten slides under to get his food. I have 6 dogs, so this is a regular problem. I am soon going to make a larger hole for my cat. Hes still little, but hving problems with getting under, because his stomach is getting larger...... I think it would be better to put it on the counter if you dont want to destroy your door! :)
