I have 4 cats, they have been eating Alley Cat dry cat food. I tried looking on the internet for which cat foods are safe, but its so confusing. Does anyone know if Alley Cat is safe, or not?

In the short run, pretty much any dry food is safe. In the long run none of them are; they all cause chronic fluid imbalance that will eventually almost certainly ruin kittys kidneys and may trigger other serious health issues. Read this to learn why:http://www. catinfo. org

The only foods affected by the recall are wet food. Unless this changes there should be no problem feeding dry cat food to your cats.

I have 4 cats as well ( 1 planned, 3 rescues). If u can afford it Royal Canin is "the diamonds of cat food). Easier on the pocket book is Max Cat made by the Nutro Company.....if u can avoid it dont buy your cat food at a grocery store, go to a pet store. Iams would be my third choice. All pet stores give free samples too. Good luck.

Menu said its latest recall was prompted by reports from the US Food and Drug Administration about the presence of melamine in cans of cuts and gravy pet food produced in Menu Foods Canadian production facility, Menu Foods said it undertook an accounting of all recalled wheat gluten supplied by ChemNutra Inc. to Menu Foods in the United States. As the result of that review, Menu Foods said it has identified a single interplant transfer of the ChemNutra supplied wheat gluten, shipped from Menu Foods plant in Emporia, Kansas, to its plant in Streetsville, Ontario. This wheat gluten was subsequently used in the production of pet food in December, 2006 and January, 2007, which is being recalled by Menu Foods. The new varieties in the United States and Canada have been added to the recall list. The latest recall group is listed below, and a complete list of recalled products, including the new items can be reviewed at www. menufoods. com. Nutro Products said its ordering all its wet pet food product made with wheat gluten removed from store shelves -- regardless of production dates."Pet owners are fed up with confusing information regarding the Menu Foods recall," Dave Kravis, President and CEO of Nutro Products, stated in press release. "I had previously ordered a broader recall of affected products than what Menu Foods had suggested. Given this new information from Menu Foods, I have ordered all wet pet food products containing wheat gluten to be removed from store shelves. The analysis suggests that out of every 10,000 cats and dogs seen in Banfield clinics, three developed kidney failure during the time pet food contaminated with melamine, a chemical used to make plastic kitchenware, countertops, fertilizers and flame retardants, was on the market. The chemical appears to have been more toxic to cats than to dogs.

Chicken dried cat food is safe and settling on cats stomachs no matter their age. anything with beef can be very rich for some cats as they age and make them sick.

I wont feed dry food, but if I did, I would only choose one from this list. Evo would be my first choice, followed by Wellness new grainless variety, or Natures Variety Raw Instincts, which is also grainless.
