Is it safe to buy cat food right now?
Austin
Go to www. menufoods. com for the list of affected brands. I just returned my supply of IAMS and Eukenuba to Petco and bought two of the brands that were no on the list. Well, in fact, ALL the affected cat food and dog food brands have been taken off the shelves at reputable pet stores like Petco, Petsmart, etc. So I suppose that whateve is left on the shelves are safe. I bought Natural Balance cans and Castor and Pollux dry. Both these companies have not been affected by the recall becuase they have the good fortune not to have had any of their pet food manufcatered by Menufoods. This is what I know re-safe cat food:Purina line of cat foods (Fancy Feast, Friskies, Purina One, etc)WellnessInnovaNatural BalanceCastor and PolluxWhiskasNatures RecipeRoyal CaninChicken SoupShebaAll these are NOT in the lists of recalled. These are all I could think of at the momentTo play it safe, DO NOT buy cat food with "wheat gluten" as an ingredient becuase that is the ingredient presently under suspicion with the pet food recall issue.

Yes, as long as it is dry food. The recall is about canned food and food in pouches.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said."At this juncture, were not 100% sure whats happened," said Paul Henderson, the companys president and chief executive officer. However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, since dropped for another source, spokeswoman Sarah Tuite said. Wheat gluten is a source of protein. The recall covers the companys "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6 throughout the U. S., Canada and Mexico. The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Co., Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said. FIND MORE STORIES IN: Kroger
