What is the best brand of canned cat food??

Eve

What brand/kind of cat food should we get my cat??My cat is 17 years old and the vet said that we need to switch her to senior canned cat food. She has ate dry food before and we usually buy good life recipie. There are just so many choices of canned cat food, but what is the best for the price?? We dont want to feed our cat the most expensive food. Also do they even make senior canned cat food?? Thanks!!

Senior cat food? Why? Any high quality canned food will be fine. I recommend varying the diet with a constant rotation of accepted canned foods that your cat enjoys. If you do this, and allow your cat the same assortment they would have in nature when eating mice, bugs, birds and rabbits, your cats’ digestive system wont be so sensitive and you wont have to run around looking for a specific brand when your store is out. You will have a nice variety to choose from instead. Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance contains no by-products. My cats favorite formula is Indoor Ultra Formula. Its top named ingredients are Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Duck, Salmon, Carrots, Brown Rice Flour, and Fish Meal. It has a pleasant aroma, a nice paté consistency, and my test cats dive into it every time it is served. Guaranteed analysis: Crude Protein 9% min, Crude Fat 5% min, Crude Fiber 1% max, Moisture 78% max, Taurine 0.05% min, Ash 1.9% max, Magnesium 0.025% max. Natural Balance maintains its own testing center for seven known toxins including melamine, for its Buy with Confidence program - a huge plus, in my opinion. http://cats. about. com/od/catfoo1/tp/tpca…

Over time, our cats finally found a flavour of canned food they like. Do your cats bring in any mice, rabbits ect. and eat them? You can get rabbit, chicken, turkey, salmon and all sorts of flavoured canned food. Whiskas is quite popular, I would suggest going to the nearest shop with canned food and checking up all the flavours.

Bless her heart, I would ask the vet for their advise, but usually with kitties of that age, Science Diet or Iams are good for their systems. Ive found that my kitty Abby (she was 19 years old when she died) loved Iams Chicken or Tuna, the Pate style. The Pate style seems to be the easiest for older cats to handle. The flaked and chunky style was too much work for her and she wouldnt eat it and these styles seem to be more spicy (?) and would upset her tummy.

Senior foods, kitten foods, weight control, cat food, etc they really are all the same things. Whats been pointed out to me is that senior foods usually have more fillers and carbs that actually put more weight on their old bones. Overpriced Junky Brands:IamsScience DietRoyal CaninEukanuba9 LivesFriskiesWhiskasNutroFancy FeastYummy great brands:InnovaBlue BuffaloHaloBefore GrainMerrickWellnessFelidaeThings you dont want in a Cat Food:CornGlutenWheatSoyBrewers Rice/GrainBrewers YeastDyesPreservatives/ BHA or BHTBy ProductsDigestFriskies has a line of senior canned foods, but its junk. What you need is something like Halo brand cat food for your senior cat. It has the right balance of everything and not too much or too little of anything. http://friskies. com/Wet-Cat-Food/Senior/…SENIOR CAT FOOD by Friskies"Water sufficient for processing, chicken, liver, meat by-products, wheat gluten, turkey, soy flour, corn starch-modified, tuna, natural artificial flavors, brewers rice, potassium chloride, taurine, tricalcium phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, choline chloride, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, niacin, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, Vitamin D-3 supplement, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), potassium iodide, sodium selenite, biotin. C-5237"Liver? From what? Meat By Products? From what animal? Wheat gluten? Why would a cat want that? Soy Flour, not needed. Cats can develop serious allergies to soy. Why is there artificial flavors in there? Brewers rice? Thats a by product of the beer industry and a cat really doesnt need it. Its really not that great. Halo Dry Food:Chicken, Pea Protein, Whole Dried Eggs, Oats, Vegetable Broth, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Pea Flour, Chicken Liver, Salmon, Flaxseed, Salmon Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Pea Fiber, Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Blueberries, Green Beans, Carrots, Cranberries, Zucchini, Alfalfa, Inulin, Calcium Sulfate, Potassium Chloride, Taurine, Salt, Folic Acid, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Cobalt Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Choline Bitartrate, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Longum, Enterococcous Faecium, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite. Oh, dont worry about feeding "senior" food. Its just a meaningless label tacked on to make you think youre doing the right thing. But hes right about switching to canned food. The bad news is that theres nothing very good in the grocery stores. But at 17 years, I wouldnt worry too much over it. Just avoid the foods with fish as theyre unhealthy if served more than 2-3 times per week. Fancy Feast makes some varieties that arent too bad. The good news is that good food is becoming more readily available. And the foods sold in organic markets tends to be better than that sold in the grocery store. Natural Balance (sold at Petco) is one thats pretty good and isnt too expensive. Wellness is starting to be sold at Petco, and its not too too pricy either.
