How do i remove the cat food smell out of cans?

I want to recycle the cans from cat foods into gift boxes. But it has that awful smell that wont go away even after several washings with dish soap and boiling water. How do I get rid of ALL that smell? - And yes, I do clean it right after Ive taken the food out. Its not like I let it linger in the can for a day or so.
