When I spray the trash can down, they go for the cat food bowl. But dont want to spray that down with poison. Or is there a way to keep them out of my house completly? (They wont take the bait back with them, Ive tried.)
Mattie
For both the trash can and your cats bowl smear some vaseline (petroleum jelly) around the bottom outside edges of the containers. i do this with my cats bowl if i am going out for some hours. the ants wont go over the vaseline. as long as you make it thick enough and put it where they cant get into the can opening or the bowl

Sprinkle cayenne pepper where you dont want them.

Ants wont cross a line of black pepper or Citrus oil (such as citrasolv). You can make a line of either of those substances around what theyre feeding off of and eventually theyll realize theres no more food in the house...if you can track them back to where theyre entering, thats even better.

Borax or instant grits, the grits really work!!!!

One word "BORAX" sprinkle it on there trail and at the door ways, set-up a barrier, theyll stop coming in.

Youre going to have to move the cat bowl until you get this problem tackled. Spray the heck out of the trash can, and spray every crack, crevice and possible entry point -- do the entire door facings, all the windows.... Make sure you are sealed properly - check your window door caulk - this is probably how they are getting in. Once you do this, set traps at the entry ways. Takes a few days, but you will be ant-free.
