Do you pay attention to ingredients in cat food before buying?

Charlie

Ok I ask this because of posts I read on here. Do people pay attention to the ingredients in cat food before buying or do they just buy it because they see it on tv and pay no attention to ingredients. Here are the first 7 ingredients in Purina Cat Chow dry:Poultry by-product meal, corn meal, ground whole wheat, corn gluten meal, soy flourWhat is poultry by products anyways, and look at all those grains why do carnivores need all those grains. Here is the first 7 ingredients in one brand of Fancy Feast canned: This is the turkey and giblets kindMeat by-products, meat broth, poultry, poultry by-products, natural and artificial flavors, guar gumYuck Yuck yuck by products and no named meats. Here are 2 much better foods:TimberWolf Organics Serengeti: (dry) Chicken Meal, Fresh Chicken, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Low Ash Salmon Meal, Potatoes, Tuna Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols) Dried Eggs, Dried Chicken LiverNow that looks better look at that (cont.

I checked with the vet for some good brands. I do check for low ash content. If you have a male cat the residue can plug him and he wont be able to urinate. I forget what a low ash content would be so check with your vet. I NEVER feed cheap food as it is bulked up with cereal.

I dont....but i used to buy my cat..........the cheap stuff and he used to eat alot of it and **** really nasty, but now i buy science diet and he eats alot less and his **** dont smell.......its alot more but it lasts longer and its better for him.......

By-products are everything but the meat. Bones, feathers, chicken feet (ground up), etc. Kinda like bologna or hot dogs. Never buy pet food with corn or by-products listed as one of the 2 first ingredients. The ingredients are in order from most to least amount. Science Diet and other so-called good pet foods are full of crap. I feed my cats Purina Pro Plan. Cheaper than the so-called "good" stuff. Not the best, but alot better than most. Read the ingredients always.

Actually i do pay attention to product labeling. I have a dog and would not even think of feeding her meat by products, which is whats left over chicken parts, from the slaughter house. I do agree with you, even though my vet says Purina is quite OK for my dog, I buy Newmans own. brand from the health food store.
