Whats the healthiest cat food brand so that it would prolong the life of a cat?

Delois

My cat is 11. I am scared. What food should I give her, something really healthy and for her age, to make sure she can live as long as possible? So far Ive been giving her Fancy Feast but I dont think thats good. Please!!!!!

Ask your vet, they will be the best ones to make this recommendation.

I like Wellness and they do have a senior formula. My cat is 10 and that is what he eats. We took him to the vet andthey said he was a little over weight but other than that he is doing great on this food. Hope you have a few more happy years with your kitty!

I like Iams dry food. My cats been on it since day 1 and shes in great shape. But I think youre going to have a difficult time getting your cat to eat anthing but canned if youve been giving it Fancy Feast this whole time. Take her to the vet if youre worried that she has health problems, and the vet can recommend what kind of food would be best for her at this age of her life. Good luck!

I buy my food from the vet, I know its good and natural, it can run a little more expensive, about 20-30 dollars a bag, but its a pretty big bag, and my cats think it taste good, and a good thing is most vets let you try some for your cat to see if they like it, before you have to buy it!

I feed my kittens Innova EVO. I have read many, many reviews about the Innova brand and people have said it even healed cats and kittens from serious illnesses. People have also claimed their healthy cats who were changed to the Innova food looked even better after eating it. There isnt any Innova EVO for senior cats, but there is Innova Senior dry and wet cat food. They have very good natural food without wasteful fillers. Though Innova EVO is supposed to be good for all ages of cats and kittens alike. It is a high protein diet, so youll want to talk to your vet to see if its okay for your cat.

FF isnt the worst out there, but you can do better. You could look into raw feeding. Since youre already feeding canned, theres a good change your cat would go for it. Or if you just want to learn about some of the better canned foods, see the What to feed link. This lists many good brands. I personally feed Instincts (which is on the list). Best is a relative term of course, so you have to choose whats best for you. But this list is a good starting point. You can also see my blog on how to identify a good cat food. Its rather long but there is a lot of good info in it, which Ive gleaned from other (named) sources.

A raw diet is best for cats, however, given her age, you should speak with your vet before a change like that. I feed my cats Evolve dry kibble and Triumph wet food. Cats need wet food as their tongues are not naturally designed to drink water. They receive about 70% of their fluids from their food.

You will find many passionate opinions on this subject. Your cat is a senior citizen, and there are formulations for seniors. I have posted a link from the Cornell vet school on cat foods. I tend to feel you get what you pay for, and I prefer to get cat food that has meat listed as the first ingredient. But the main thing to consider is that your cat is the decider. No matter what you think is the best food, if your cat doesnt eat it, it will be of no value. The oldest cat I had lived to 15 1/2, losing a battle with thyroid problems, and she had only one type of dry kibble since graduating from kitten chow. Our family had a cat that lived into his 20s on just run of the mill cat food. The oldest cat I have currently is 13, in perfect health, and has had the same kibble since I got her at age 1.Due to the age spread of my cats, I cannot switch to a senior formulation easily.

I prefer Hills science diet because it exceeds all the other brands in nutrition and plus you can pick different varieties such as "senior avandced protection" or "Mature adult with advanced nutrition" they even make cat food for sennior cats that help reduce the amount o hairballs! I think this brand is the best choice for your aging cat.
