If I change cat food brands immediately, how long will the cat have diarrhea?
Cordelia
It just depends on the cat. Different bodies react to different things in different ways. Its even possible that your cat may never get used to the food and the diarrhea could go on indefinitely. It just depends on the cat.

Its a much better idea to change the food slowly, slightly increasing the ratio of new food to old food each day/feeding. The last time I switched my cats food on the advice of the vet, she suggested that it should take at least two weeks to get them eating only the new stuff. The only time I tried to switch food abruptly (my husband bought the wrong food), one of my cats was very sick for the whole weekend, until we got a package of their regular food.

If youre switching dry foods, then you need to gradually add more of the new food to the old food for about two weeks until the old food has been phased out. If youre switching canned food, then there hopefully wont be a problem.

Dont give your cat a new kind just put it in wit the other kind and keep puting more and more in then change it or your cat will get very sick and go thougt adominal pain

It really depends on the cat and how long they have eatn the food!
