Hi i was just wondering.

Daine

Hi i was just wondering. . . what cat food would you recomend?

Trena

A properly balanced raw meat diet is best, but for commercially prepared cat foods, I can recommend two - Natures Variety Instincts and By Nature Organics. Canned only. These are the two that I feed. I chose them after doing much research. Both are grainless and are very good quality. This is important to me because Poppy has a weight problem and digestive issues. They are pricy but my girls are worth it. There are several other good brands out there, and some of them are listed in the What to feed link. I believe that article also gives pointers on choosing a good food - namely it should be high in meat-based proteins, be grainless or nearly so, and meet the nutritional requirements. Canned food is best. Dry food can be given but I wouldnt make it more than 30% of the cats total diet. I personally use Evo only as a treat.

I give my cats Meow Mix. Probably not the best food out there, but it works and they seem to like it. I give my kitten Purina Kitten chow with a mix of Naturals food (I got it for my ferret but my cat ended up eating it). I give them (on occasion) Friskies canned cat food.

Science Diet

Drusilla

Wellness..I heard its one of the best. And my kitty loves it. I also like Merrick and Avoderm. These brands contain no animal by-products. You can only find these in holistic pet food stores. Note: They sell at about 2 dollars a can.

Anisha

Dry: meow mix. Wet: fancy feast ocean white fish and tuna. My cat will only eat those 2 and treats.

Denver

Whiskas or Felix..

We have an older, indoor cat. We feed her Purina One Indoor formula (dry) and Friskies (canned), about 2 Tbsp. a day seperate from the dry. The hairball formula - dry also works well.

Bonita

I would recommend Iams or that Science cat food. Dont feed them Meow Mix because we brought our cat to the vet and the lady asked what do we feed them and we said Meow Mix. She said that Meow Mix was like a kitty junk food and she recommended Iams. We were like no wonder why our other cat is so fat (about 20 lbs)!

Hallie

Dry: Nutromax Roasted Chicken Solid Gold Katzen Flocken Wet: Fancy feast in 3 oz cans - half a can 2 times a day.

Dylan

Friskies get dry or wetor purina get dryor iams dry cat foodor meow mix dry food

Marguerita

I feed my cat dry Iams or GoodLife, and he only eats Friskies canned food. Hes not too picky about the dry food, but he turns up his nose at other brands of canned food.

Cari

IAMS!!!! I cant say it enough. My cats were both feeling really badly. One was losing weight quickly, the other gaining quickly. They were both sluggish and the one was constantly throwing up. Took them to the vets - hundreds of dollars of tests later they had no explanation. On a whim, we bought IAMS Multicat and the change was phenomenal. They were both playing and their weight got under control. I wont give them anything else and will highly reccommend it to any cat owner.

Fancy feast 0r proplanf0r dry: Nutr0

My aunt used Nine Lives for her three older cats. She boughta variety of the flavors and would give them a different meator fish when each can was empty after two days. Theresanother brand that comes in a smaller can like that, that weused for our cat of 15 years, but I cant remember the namenow, since I just woke up LOL. I think one the type that comeswith its own juices and gravy are the best. Dont buy the tallkind that tend to be dryer. Cats need oils for their skin to enable them to have a glossy coat. So stick with the typethat has that extra oil in the food.

Debbie

Performatrin Ultra. Both dry and canned. Its by-product free, which will guarantee a healthier and longer life for your cat and cats love the taste. Dont, for the love of god, give them Iams or Whiskas. Science Diet, as far as cat foods go, is a lot better than regular brands (even Meow Mix) but it still has by-products. Try to get the cat used to natural food right away. It makes it a lot easier as they grow up.

HiNutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s healthContrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u. t.i’s and a host of other problems. The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gottenout of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and dont use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesnt have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth.
