Have you ever avoided buying a cat food brand and why?

Jennie

I stopped using Whiskas as its junk food for cats. Iams because of its PETA blacklisted status. Started using Natures Best which had a dramatic change in behaviour with the sulky one (George) and less/no fur shedding with both George and Snaffle. However George has started throwing up perfectly digested cat food! Hes healthy otherwise. Would appreciate tips.

For me its just about quality. I wont buy anything from the grocery store, I will never buy any special "prescription" foods from a vet, and Ill never buy inferior foods that might be sold anywhere.

Charlene

Uhm. my cat doesnt like friskas so I dont buy it?

Adina

Yes stopped iams as rubbish full of junk, i now buy science diet

Did you slowly introduce the cat food or did you just switch. A slow transition to the new food will probably be easier on you cats stomach. Make sure you read the label to ensure you are giving your cats proper nutrition because this can also be the source of an upset stomache. Good Luck ;)

Does George have hairballs? Yes, I do avoid the regular store cat foods. I go to a local pet store, and buy Royal Cannin for cats. They have different selections, based on if indoor or outdoor cat, siamese, skin care, hairball control, etc. I have a friend who feeds her cats science diet. The healthier the food, the better. It is not so full of "fillers" and therefore fills them up better, and keeps them healthier. Take care.

FYI - Science Diet and Eukanuba are made by the Iams company. Natures Balance is good cat food. Have you tried elevating the food bowls so that they are not bending over with their head down while eating. You may need to go to the vet with him and he may need a special GI diet food. Good Luck.

I stopped using Iams because of their cruel laboratory experiments on animals. Its dreadful that an organisation like Iams can parade as caring for animals when behind the scenes they are really involved in such horrendous animal abuse. Usually my cats love their food but occasionally one or both of them wont eat their food or is sick after eating it. I wonder if the box was stored in the wrong conditions before I bought it, and has gone off. When I buy a new box of the same food, theyre fine again. I think if its from the same box/packet, Id throw it away and buy a new box. If its happening with different boxes, Id try changing the flavour, and if it still happens, you probably need to buy different food. You could also try giving them a some tinned tuna in spring water (no salt), or a tin of skinned and boneless salmon, which Im sure theyll love! Good Luck.

I avoid all dry foods as one of my cats got diabetes from eating it. I stick with canned foods that have a muscle meat as a first ingrediant and little or no grains as cats are carnivores

Serena

I wont buy any cat food that uses claims about human health to sell cat food. Humans are omnivores, cats are carnivoresI wont buy Iams, Science Diet or Eukanuba because they cant make a kitten food that starving kittens would eat. I wont buy any food that doesnt list a meat source as the first ingredient. again cats are carnivores. For a good source of info for cat nutrition, check out the link. It is a site run by a vet
