My 13 week old kitten wont eat kitten food. Weve tried wet, moist and dry. The only few brands of cat food he will eat is labeled for cats and kittens. The fat content isnt as high as in the kitten food but I dont know how to get him to eat the kitten food. Is this ok since it is labeled for both cats and kittens?

If the first ingredient is meat or meat meal, and it doesnt contain any corn, by-products, soy, salt, or wheat gluten, then it should be okay for your kitten!!A great food would be Innova, Innova EVO, California Naturals, Premium Edge, or Chicken Soup for the soul. Not friskies, Iams, science diet, special kitty, purina, or most anything you see in the grocery store/ petsmart. One great kitten food to try is Maxximum from Wal Mart. Its cheaper than Innova, etc. but it is comparitively higher-quality.

Yea it should be ok....if its a little too hard you could put a little bit of water in her bowl before you put food in it then mix the water and food together and it should be mushy enough for your kitten to eat

Ya it should be ok, but if he looks like he is looking a little thin i would put him back on the kitten foodi fed my 10 week old kitten abult cat food and he was fine

Its totally fine. The fancy brands like Innova are great but also very pricey and can be hard to find. Even adult cat foods will support kittens and they will be just fine. Its been proven many times that puppy food can actually be harmful to the growth of dogs bones since it makes them grow so fast, and until the large breed puppy foods came out vets who kept up were recommending adult dog food for puppies. Anyway, thats irrelevant, my point is just that your kitten will grow and be healthy even on plain adult cat food. Great if you can afford the high end brands but Purina or Iams, etc. are fine. Purina actually does lots of research and is a very good company even though its a "grocery store" brand.

If you will feed a good quality food there is nothing special about kitten food and the kitten can eat regular cat food. That is food that (if dry) has the first two ingredients as wholesome meat - not by-product meat and a grain such as rice, millet, etc. - not corn. You should also use canned food for the kitten. Meat is the natural diet for cats - not grains. Wellness, Felidae, Solid Gold, Natural Balance are all good quality foods. CA Natural, Evangers, Natures Variety are more expensive and you can work some of those into the kittens diet which is easy to do with the canned foods. You should not give a kitten cat food even if it says it is also for kittens. if you do, i guess it will be fine but you should give a kitten cat food at least until it is older than 1 year old. hope this helps!

My kitten used to eat my older cats food all the time. The kitten perferred the cat food and the cat perferred the kitten food. The vet said it was fine if she only ate cat food as long as we made sure she was eating enough to get proper nutrition.

I recommend that you get science diet for kittens and cats. Some cats cant eat the harder, bigger kind of food so it is perfect for older cats and kittens. It is a very healthy food and maintains weight. You can find it almost everywhere. Your vet should carry it, walmart, dillons, places like that.

It will be perfectly fine with adult food. I just raised a puppy and she never got any puppy food at all. She is a large breed dog and I didnt want her to turn out funny looking. Some of my favorites are Wellness, Merrick, Natural Balance, Proplan, or at least go with Purina One if you want to do a walmart food. Please dont go with Science Diet. If your cat was in the wild would it choose to eat meat or corn? Its gonna eat meat. I will not feed any of my animals a food that is a corn or byproduct based diet. In fact I dont feed byproducts at all. Look for a food that has real meat as the first indigent. I am really not sure why anyone pushes Science Diet. It is full of crap.

I dont think that you should, I have found that stuff that mixes two products usually doesnt work as well as just the one product. I would stick to the usual kitten food, I have two cats and both were raised on just kitten food and then switched to cat food and both of them have turned out fine. (Would you give your baby food that is labeled baby and human food?)
